There is no finer place to raise a child than in Bay St. Louis or Pass Christian.

Look, the state of mississippi is pretty much a dump but the "gulf coast" (actually the mississippi sound)is the worst of it...even worse than the delta.

Best schools in the state. Unfortunately, too far on the western side.

Incorrect. I would rather live in the shittiest town in the MS Delta than anywhere on the MS Gulfcoast.

Biloxi and Bay St Louis are like New Orleans without all the killing, culture everywhere, everyone gets along. Gautier is where everyone in Biloxi used to have fish camps and it's currently a shithole in the making. Jackson County is more blue collar than Harrison and Hancock counties, with the exception of OS. OS property taxes are sky-high, but they have the best places to hangout and eat. I was born and raised in Biloxi, so I'm a little preferential to it.

Grew up in Biloxi. I felt like an outsider because my family wasn't originally from there. It seemed like everyone else was related to each other. The only exception were the Air Force kids.

There wasn't a ton to do there as a kid unless you had a boat. The beaches are ok. However, the nice thing is that you are a short drive from nicer beaches in Florida, and can easily drive to New Orleans for entertainment.

Overal not a bad place to live, and is much better off than the rest of the state. It is also more culturally similar with parts of South Louisiana.

Cool

I'll raise my family in Biloxi and you raise yours in clarksdale. Then we will never cross paths and my kids will never play with your kids and I'll be ok with that

Used to be a truly hidden gem of the gulf coast. It obviously dropped off dramatically since Katrina but they are making positive strides. Downtown PC has a nice development going with small shops, restaurants, and a coffee shop.

I wouldn't live there full time but would kill to have a summer home in the Pass.

You going to work for the shipyard? If so, I knew people that made that commute to Pascagoula from Mobil area and didn't mind the drive.

The coast as a whole is very unique from the rest of the state, in most every aspect. The farther you get away from the water in any of the coast towns the lesser your property values will be, with the exception of some very nice neighborhoods in Biloxi and Gulfport.

There are only two real private schools in all of the coast. St. Patricks in Biloxi up near the interstate, it is a merger of older schools after Katrina, catholic based education.

Then there is St. Stanislaus my alma mater . But if you dont live Gulfport or closer it is a tough drive, though it is the best education all around on the coast still and that is really not even questioned. But very good public high schools.

To the OP, in terms of where to raise a family, it seems like you are based out of Jackson County.
Vancleave.....just stay away no need to get into why.

Pascagoula the largest "city" in the county and has some nice areas and Goula high isnt that bad. I would say dont even consider Gautier because it is a lesser version of Pascagoula in every sense.

Moss Point has some good qualities and MPHS is not that bad, but would still choose Pascagoula over it any day with them being so close.

But as others have mentioned Ocean Springs is a lovely town, that has the unique feel of being very quaint but also some things that seperate it from the whole everybody knows everybody vibe. I think personally Ocean Springs is a in a lot of ways similar to Fairhope, if that means anything to you. As well Biloxi being right across the bridge. Ovean Springs and St. Martin are also two of the best high schools in all of MS with good-great sprits programs and brand new facilities.

With Biloxi and Gulfport you are really splitting hairs IMO, if you have not lived on the coast your whole life the differences would not matter to you. In other words local politics and differences in how the cities operate, that are complex and historically based.

But as a personal favorite would say Pass Christian. Best public high school in the entire state for 3 years now. The nicest beaches on the coast, which is not saying much but still take it for what its worth. You also have Gulfport and Biloxi that are pretty close. Another issue that does come up is that the Pass does not have any casinos, which depending on how your family setting is can rub some people the wrong way in Biloxi at times.

As you have already said past Biloxi is out of your reach but just to add for others if they care. Bay Saint Louis/Waveland, are really one in the same now more than ever. There are locals especially in Bay Saint Louis that truly believe Waveland is beneath them, which is understandable. A fair public school system that is really hurt by SSC/OLA. Both quaint, nice towns to raise a family, lived in both! Would say go for it but im not impartial.

Stay away from the Kiln, just no need to go into it. Diamondhead is not a bad place to raise a family, but the best way to describe it for Baton Rouge folks would be to think of it as The Bluffs in St. Francisville almost exactly.

Hope this helps you in any way, and good luck always hope to see new faces on the coast that would love to settle down and make it a better place. As many on here can tell you everyone has an experience on the coast, especially if you lived in New Orleans.
