Have to figure any area where the Fairfield Inn is $295 a night must have some expensive real estate in that area.
I heard many companies bought up apartment complexes to have housing for its employees, although this may have happened a couple of years ago

Once was a tv series filmed there called Black Gold. It was based on some roughnecks on a oil rig. I hate they canceled it.
My brother in law was a producer. He had to follow around all those crazy people.
OP: thousands of fortunes have been made in Midland - including George Bush's - go into it with the mindset that you're the next JR and it won't be so bad. They've had money for 100 years so there are some good restaurants. The blue door, Wall St. Bar & Grill, The Bar, Cancun Mexican, the bar door in Odessa, for starters. But there are a ton of decent places. However, the service industry is abysmal because everyone competent works in the oil biz. Real estate is awful, both in terms of value and quality. I'd rent.

It's the Shreveport/Bossier of west Texas.
As compared to what? Shreveport is Shangri La as compared to Baton Rouge or most of the other trash towns in South Louisiana, the gulf is really the only redeeming quality of south LA

This is also very true. Wall St has a solid brunch

1. Get into hunting if you aren't
2. Get into golf if you aren't
If those aren't options
3. Last I heard, SW Air still has direct to Vegas from Midland

my wife is from there. Her dad worked in the oil fiends. Her mother still lives there. I have to go for Thanksgiving.
due to the price of oil, there is a down turn in the local economy.
Midland is more upscale. Odessa is working class.
There's North Texas State U, which I believe gave us JJ. so you have your typical cultural activities, coeds, sports.
wife did her undergrad there.
Its America. You will recognize the language right away, and you will observe all the restaurants you know from TV ads are there too.
they have winter but not like Wisconsin. Luckily you are headed there in warmer weather, so you can adapt next fall, and buy appropriate clothing.

Well, there's always the BIG SKY drive in....on the main drag between Midland and Odessa
The Big Sky Drive-In is a brand new theatre which opened October 19, 2005. The first movies shown were “The Fog” and “Corpse Bride” on screen 1 and “Just Like Heaven” and “Into The Blue” on screen 2. The owners of the Big Sky Drive-In also own the Sky-Vue Drive-in in Lamesa, about 90 miles to the north of Midland.
The Big Sky Drive-In location is directly adjacent to the former Texan Drive-In, which closed in the mid-1980’s.
One of the favorite items on the snack bar is the “Chihuahua” sandwich, which features taco meat, pimiento cheese, lettuce, and a jalapeno pepper.
The theatre operates year-round.

You know how Texans like to brag about how great everything here is? Midland/Odessa the kind of thing we'll pretend we didn't hear you mention and quickly change the subject.

Depressing. That is unless you like being alone/solitary and then you might like it.

There isn't shite to do. I hear Midland is the nicer of the two. I don't think that is saying much.
