2. Is the family member possibly not answering you and breaking the glass to your house?

You said "possibly". Since your family member is now dead, it is just my word. And I'll say, sure he was threatening me in some way.

Well, why would I NOT say "possibly?" We don't know.

If it were my family member I'd want your head on a stick because I would be totally irrational about it and not exactly in a frame of mind to view this in the correct manner, so I don't get what your point is about making it a family member.

I mentioned a family member just for the very reason you are getting worked up about it.
Many are quick to defend the shooter here stating he had a right to defend his house, himself and is OK in some way that he shot a kid standing on his doorstep.
But by putting yourself in the eyes of the victim, I'd think your perspective would be changed.
If my kid went to a friend's house or inadvertently went to the wrong house and he was shot by some over reactive homeowner, I'd want to do the same as your wanting to do.
I just don't think this story is adding up good for the defendant. I think he's got a history of having a short fuse or he had already some grudge against those kids. There's got to be a bit more to explain.

Man, kids have it rough these days. In my day, kids were allowed to be kids.

We should be looking at this from a rational standpoint, so mentioning the family member is irrelevant.

As I've said above, try putting yourself in the eyes of the shooter, it may not be that simple either. Who knows.

So, what if it was your son or daughter who did the shooting? You and me and whoever would be arguing all the reasons why it was justified, which again, isn't coming from a rational perspective.

Very possible, and once that happens, we know more info to make more informed thoughts. As of now, it's a really tough situation with limited info to really go either way with 100% full on support IMO.

In your day, the world was probably actually more violent compared to today's world.

As a single male, I wouldn't be very willing to shoot someone. I'd probably crouch behind something and see if the guy had a gun or not. If I had a family? I'd put a burglar down with a quickness.

I always preface it by saying I don't really know what I'd do in those situations, but I'd like to think exactly as you said here.

I'm thinking if this scenario played out and I had my 2 boys in the house with me, if I don't know who was knocking on my door and once I hear glass breaking I can't say I wouldn't have done the same thing. Even then, I'd like to think I'd wait a bit longer to avoid a possible scenario like this one may be, but who really knows when you're trying to defend your kids from what can only appear to be a break in.

But again, we don't know the history of everyone in question in the specific scenario, lots of variables that may come out that will shed more light on what happened.
