The vast majority of teachers in this state do not belong to any union.

From my time as a teacher I saw no benefit to joining a teacher's union. Seemed like a money grab to me.

shite like this is one of the reasons why that as a teacher I am not part of a union.

My union isn't a sponsor. I'm a part of LFT because it's $10/month and they don't represent administration. LAE (sponsor mentioned here) is a money grab that represents everyone. So if you have an issue with an administrator you are going to get screwed. And it's about $50/month

There is a non-union alternative in Louisiana called Associated Professional Educators of Louisiana (A+PEL). They provide the same benefits (liability insurance, legal advice, etc.) at half the cost of union membership fees. Unlike the unions, they don't endorse nor support political campaigns and all membership fees stay in La.
