Target said it has no plans to pull a Christmas-themed sweater that some people think trivializes a mental illness.

The red sweater has "OCD" written in large green letters with the words "obsessive Christmas disorder" written underneath. The sweater is on sale at Target.com for $22.49 - $24.99.

The sweater has some people calling for Target to remove the item they consider offensive to those with OCD, a mental disorder characterized by overwhelming urges to repeat certain rituals or behaviors, such as handwashing or locking and unlocking doors. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, OCD affects more than 2 million American adults.

People took to social media yesterday to express their opinion on the sweater.

Target said it has no plans to quit selling the holiday garment.

"We never want to disappoint any of our guests and apologize for any discomfort," Josh Thomas, a Target spokesman, told the Chicago Tribune. "We currently do not have plans to remove this sweater."

The sweater is just the latest thing to generate Christmas controversy.

Earlier this week, Starbucks came under fire for its use of solid red cups for the holiday season. Social media users, led by an Arizona evangelist, said the coffee chain was part of the "War on Christmas" for removing holiday images from its cups.

Thank you, thank you, thank you Target.

The only way we're going to start silencing these dumbfricks who are offended about everythign is to start telling htem to kick rocks and STFU. Eventually people will get tired of trying.

Glad Target is using healthy-looking models. Those skinny models make me cringe.

I had never heard the term H.N.I.C. until it was told to me by a black man. He also told me what it stands for.

Obviously a racist
