Good story with a sad ending, hopefully your little sister has learned something valuable from this and moves on as a better person. As a big brother, it is your duty now to find another unusual (but more long-term) pet that she can "save" and still possibly use the habitat.
Ferrets make loyal pets to their owners and are somewhat unusual, maybe find an orphaned one somewhere. If all else fails, head to your local animal shelter with your sister and adopt a kitten that's been orphaned and not weened yet so she'll have to bottle feed it. I've never had a pet that's more loyal and attached to me than a kitten myself and my SO bottle fed, and I've owned several dogs.

Your sister is some kind of wildlife serial killer. Box turtles live over 50 years in the wild and at the age of 12 she has killed two of them. You should ban her from having pets...... Maybe even boyfriends!

Lol, I am not a dumbass. I donated out of the goodness of my heart. I remember what it was like to be a kid and loved animals big and small.
