Talk to me about LSU Law School
Give me some general info. Tell me about the quality? Bad idea for a Texas boy who will eventually end up back in Texas?

I have children and figure I would have to place them in private schools. Is this true? What is the cost?

What else should I be thinking about?

I'm enjoying it so far. It's not as cutthroat like some of the other schools in the state. Highest bar passage rate in the state. Keep in mind that outside of the top 14 schools in the country...law schools are very regional. LA recruits LA. TX recruits TX. Not to say it can't be done...you'll just have to do a lot of the job legwork on your own if you go back to Texas.

Can't really speak to this because I'm from new Orleans...but in NOLA it's Catholic/private/charter or bust.

Is the education tilted toward LA? I guess I am asking, will I be a dumb arse when I go back to Texas?

I am a 3L at SULC in Baton Rouge. I don't have first hand knowledge of LSU law school, but I think you can focus on civil or common law there

the difference is overstated.

That said, if you know want to practice in texas, go to law school in texas.

law degrees are largely regional outside of the top 14

The law is different in Louisiana. I'm not sure what they teach at LSU law school, but if it caters to Louisiana law, you might have issues elsewhere.

Louisiana law isn't as different as people think.

Is it titled towards LA? Yes, I'd say that is the case. Unlike Loyola and Tulane you don't get to choose between common and civil. Torts, civil law property, obligations, and legal traditions make up your first year "LA classes."

Will you be a dumb arse when you go back? Definitely not. You actually get two degrees. The basic JD and a degree in comparative law. You still take the basic common law classes like contracts, civ pro, etc and when elective time comes you can load up on all the common law you desire. They prepare you for both common AND civil law settings...not just one or the other.

We had an issue with power of attorney with my mom in NOLA, and lawyers in Florida and Texas wouldn't touch it. You may feel it is the same, but if lawyers from outside LA feel differently it may make life more difficult.

Yeah, I realize it is the top 14 law schools. I was asking which schools make up the 14. I know all 14 are out of my reach. Just curious.

Having a dual common/civil law background isnt going to hurt when dealing strictly with common though. Hell, LA is basically common in practice...

Yeah actually it is. Civil law is very different from common law. And that's not just the terminology. Property is like comparing apples to oranges in respect to common/civil law.

My girlfriend and I are both in law school and each of us are in a separate tract from the other (shes from Florida - common law. I'm from here - doing civil). Last night she asked me to help her with her contract homework and it was like I was speaking Chinese to her.

Trust me, they're very different from each other.
