I imagine the government would become their shield in that instance, which would open another can of shite.

My take (for what it's worth) is why don't we have a vote for these actions? That would accomplish a number of things:

1. Give the people of that city a chance to anonymously have a choice in the matter.
2. Remove direct outside influence on the decision (ex. Missouri and Texas visitors wouldn't be allowed to vote locally).
3. Reduce blame and praise from the local government since they aren't directly responsible for the action.
4. Give people time to internally process what should be done, instead of rushing to remove something that is obviously polarizing on both sides. If a monument has been around for over 100 years, why do we need to rush to take it down in a few weeks?
5. Give people a better idea of the current beliefs of their city. Right now, it could be argued that a vocal minority is making the decisions for a silent majority, but how do we actually know that? At the very least, you would have a better understanding of what the majority of your city believes.

remove the names and statues honoring the treasonous Confederates and white supremacists, who tried to overthrow the U.S. government and killed hundreds of thousands of Americans to preserve slavery for their own economic gain,” a statement from TEDN said.

Oh interesting. They didnt know that the north had slaves too during the civil war.

Being thats true should we deduce that the union was fighting to preserve slavery as well?

Just curious how many people has BLM killed? Don't get me wrong I can't stand the group, but I also have not seen them just running into a crowd with a car either. I think the point he was trying to make is that as long as dumb rednecks keep doing shite like that it will just add fuel to the flame.

You're reaching to say the least. I haven't said a thing to support BLM anywhere in this thread.

Pretty much it. I wouldn't disparage the term redneck by listing all white supremacists within their ranks.

You're either trolling or just an idiot. Maybe you're just a trolling idiot.

There are some ignorant people in here. Because the guy made a comment that a white supremacist driving a car in to a crowd and killing someone is not helping the cause against BLM, you take that as him not being against something? Jesus quit being an idiot.

They definitely have momentum now. It truly amazes me that are people are so short sighted as to not see these kinds of things coming.
It is extremely dangerous to start letting the little things pass to appease some unreasonable person or group, because it leads to a lot more stupidity down the road. "Well, we got this by throwing our tantrums, so let's see what else we can get!'
Appeasement is a recipe for disaster when dealing with unreasonable individuals or groups.

Of course!

And yet...can we not admit that we're steering into a chicken or the egg situation here worrying about who started what? Can we not admit that these fricking loons and their swastikas were a reaction to the recent movement to tear down monuments that no one has cared about...ever? Sure...these idiots were around before but no one cared about them/ But NOW these white idiots have something they can use as a rallying cry to react to...right?

And then, as you suggest, when they react to what they have perceived as bullshite from their "other side" then the other side gets to react back.

And so on, and so on...

My point is that anyone pointing ONLY at these fricking "Nazis" as the reason for there now being a huge violence issue is missing the greater point, which is that all of us in the middle (and I don't literally mean the exact middle but the middle in terms of being left of Nazis and right of Antifa) are being lead around by the nose by the fringiest of the fringe.

That was kind of my point. Any is too many, but I would have to say that white supremacist have killed more than 8 people in the last 20 years. Like the other poster said, I wish that they would all just disappear. Listening to the folks on here you would think that BLM has caused a genocide. Can we just agree the both are God awful?

I don't think anyone in this thread was doing that.

He was claiming that he was against both groups by saying he does not support either group....but his only posts have been against white supremacists. It is obvious to anyone that he is in support of BLM. Just because he hasn't said anything in their favor doesn't mean he isn't for them. He is expressing support for BLM by only saying bad things about the other group. He then claims to not be in support of either group. So, take your own advice and quit being an idiot.

I am sure the desecration of the graves of Confederate soldiers will be on the radar once all Confederate monuments of any kind have been removed.

Maybe not, but that has been the issue nationwide in regards to coverage of these events. It's also been the case the entire time as groups like BLM have been legitimized as essentially speaking for all black people rather than as what is clearly a hate group with fairly bad intentions.

Frankly, it pisses me off to even have to say anything about this entire topic, because honest people of good will should be able to see both of these fringe groups for what they are, easily distance themselves from both, and then have an honest discussion about whatever the topic is at hand while groups like these sit at the kids table and fight with each other while the adults talk.

There really CAN be a solid debate from both sides in regards to these monuments. Unfortunately, so long as the fringe on both sides of the argument are going to be considered the spokespeople for either side we can;t have that discussion. That's crazy that we've allowed that to take place.

Fitting last sentence considering you're missing why people are rightly clowning on fighting tigers.

white supremacists have killed at least 11 people that i can think of off the top of my head since 1998.

James Byrd in Jasper, Heather Heyer in Charlottesville, and 9 people in Charleston. i'm sure there are plenty more that I can't remember.

edit: there's been at least 60 killings by white extremists, what would now likely be called alt-right, since 1995
