Syracuse/Canada trip and AT&T

Gonna check out Niagra falls and actually crash on the Canadian side. Seems like for $30 you get unlimited texts and that's about it (wifi is always free). $1.00 a minute per call.

Turn off your roaming and just use wifi calling, I believe select phones on att have this service. Wifi calling also allows you to send and receive texts, but of course you have to be on a wifi network but it's free to use.
Or since you're going on vacation, just leave the phone at home and relax

Wifi calling isn't active on AT&T that I know of. They want to roll out VoLTE nation wide first so the handoff is seamless.

In theory I agree. However this is not a sit on the beach chill vacation. Cell phones are extremely helpful when it comes to getting around when one is doing the tourist thing.
