A heroic New York EMT who tried in vain last week to save a 7-year-old school girl choking on her lunch said he was suspended because it is against company policy to make a stop without being called.
This is so full of stupid.....another reason why 1 size fits all policies don't work.

Hey, he should always do what he is told no matter what. Comply or fired.
Good for his bosses for laying down the law...

I was involved in something similar to this. The side mirros of an ambulance clipped the back of my Yukon. They were responding to a call but when he hit me, they had to pull over and then send another ambulance. There was absolutely nothing wrong with me but they said they couldn't leave until a cop got there to write up the accident report. I don't know if the other ambulance got there in time to save that person.

Aren't there some kind of good Samaritan laws that would protect him?

That's in a criminal case. He's not being charged with anything, just reprimanded by his employer.

Many many more good things will happen for him because he is this type of person. Hope the other guy can sleep at night.

So the partner hears there's a child inside the school choking to death and his response is there's "nothing" he can do?!?! He's willing to sit there and just let a child die? What the hell has happened to our sense of human decency?!?! He's the one who should be in trouble here. In fact, he needs to have his worthless, sorry arse fired.
