Revision: Looking to fly to Boston and stay a few nights then head north and stay a day or two in 2 or 3 towns in Maine along the coast

or

Fly to Seattle\Portland, stay few days, drive to the next city and stay a few days then fly out

Any suggestions on which trip would offer more especially in the food category?

I've been to Boston and Seattle (although Seattle was only for 2 days during LSU game) I prefer Boston as I feel there is more to do with the history of the city. I can't speak for the secondary city of each though.

If we're judging this strictly on food & drink scene

what part of the summer?

if its early summer, don't do the PNW as it will probably still be grey and wet

if its July/August, then definitely do the PNW

and if you do east coast, skip Providence and do Boston and Portland, ME

Boston is great...I would skip Providence and either go to Cape Cod or just ride up to Maine (Portland/Bar Harbor)

If you really want to go to Rhode Island then visit Mystic (tiny classic NE town) and Newport

I suggest going somewhere else besides providence. I liked the other Portland (Maine) a lot and there is some great stuff on the coast as you head that way. Drive is shorter than Seattle to Portland and could also look at surrounding states too. Love both areas so you can't go wrong with either choice.

I prefer outdoor activities like climbing and biking so Seattle and Portland setup better for me personally

I've never been to Boston, but Seattle and Portland are both great cities with a ton to offer. Both have very good food and drink scenes also

just depends on what you want then

if you are more outdoor oriented, definitely PNW

if you like more history type stuff, east coast

you can find top notch food in either locations FWIW

I'll be around Portland/Bend then. WSMFP plays two nights in Bend on the 2nd and 3rd, and we will be camping and riding the McKenzie River trail. You're welcome to join the fun

basically its a east coast vs west coast trip

It doesnt have to be providence... i could fly into Boston and head north

However if I go WC, then I think it would be awesome to fly to Seattle and drive to Portland or vice versa

just found a Maine "Mountain Bike and Brew" tour

Ride trails allday and then camp out eating lobster and local microbrews...

I may have a new item to add to my travel checklist

Maine Bike n Brew

this wont be about partying or anything so I want to pick something for the SO to enjoy especially having great places to eat.

I thought Providence was a great destination according to the internet

I would prefer NW but I know she wants to go to Boston
