Why does this happen? Full stop in the right lane with a completely clear left lane.

Because that's what you're supposed to do.

Slow down for emergency vehicles.
Stop for school busses.
Use your turn signal.
If it's rush hour, leave enough fricking space between your car and the next for someone to merge. I AM SO frickING TIRED OF SLINKY TRAFFIC. WHY DOES NO ONE REALIZE THAT THERE WILL BE NO CONGESTION PROBLEMS WITH APPROPRIATE SPACING

IN ADDITION TO THE ABOVE. WHEN ON AN ON-RAMP, MERGE AT THE SPEED OF TRAFFIC YOU DUMB ASSHOLES. IF EVERYONE FOLLOWS THE RULES THERE WILL BE NO PROBLEMS

YES I AM ANGRY

It was pathetic how slow I saw an ambulance split lanes to make a right hand turn but I don't blame him. Lots of dumbasses around here.

In Louisiana, R.S. 32:125 states:

§125. Procedure on approach of an authorized emergency vehicle; passing a parked emergency vehicle
A. Upon the immediate approach of an authorized emergency vehicle making use of audible or visual signals, or of a police vehicle properly and lawfully making use of an audible signal only, the driver of every other vehicle shall yield the right-of-way and shall immediately drive to a position parallel to, and as close as possible to, the right-hand edge or curb of the highway clear of any intersection, and shall stop and remain in such position until the authorized emergency vehicle has passed, except when otherwise directed by a police officer.

Slow does not = stop. It is not the correct move.

Well yeah, that's what the law says. I rarely come to a complete stop though.

When your 1 year old child (hypothetical, since no one will procreate with you) has a seizure that lasts 26 minutes because the ems couldnt get there because asshats dont stop for them, you might understand.

I have a buddy that’s been with the fire department since the 90’s and I’ve asked him this question. He says “just drive like you normally drive but get out of the way.”

I saw a woman in a Lexus SUV get creamed by an ambulance on Sunday. She pulled right in front of it and it flattened her right across the driver's side. Turns out a fire truck was coming behind her on the side street. Instead of stopping to let the fire truck pass she chose to pull out in a three lane road. The guys in the fire truck were cutting her out in less than 5 minutes.

Move Over When you are driving on interstate highways or other highways with two or more lanes in the same direction as emergency vehicles you are required to leave the lane closest to the emergency vehicle as soon as it is safe

Doesn’t make sense to stop, especially on a bridge, interstate, or 4 lane highway.

So, you will come to a complete stop on the causeway bridge in the right lane if there’s an ambulance a mile behind you and approaching in the left lane?
