It's a sting operation so it could hold up in court by itself. It wouldn't be entrapment because the average person would not walk up to what appears to be a sleeping homeless person and bang them in the skull. An actual cadaver would have really sealed it. Either way the goal is to stop it from happening again so I think they accomplished that.

Is carrying a hammer around in a plastic bag bashing mannequin heads in against the law? This guy is guilty no doubt, how do they prove it though.

Otherwise it is a "thought crime" instead of an actual crime.

Like talking dirty to an adult pretending to be a kid and going to house that has 18y old actress?

See...I would think they'd have to prove he thought it wasn't a mannequin.

Not like guys meeting up with people who they think are 11.

This guy can claim, "I knew it was a mannequin the whole time. That's why I did it."

Chat room predators can't make that type of claim.

(I'm against those type of stings as well btw).

Well perhaps I'm wrong but I think that's BS too...

Not that I condone that obviously, but I just don't agree with the logic.

Won't work. That's why laws were made with certain wording for online sting operations to catch pedos that specifically say "if you thought they were underage" or "solicited an officer in the line of duty".

It will be interesting to see, but I have a feeling they just did this so they can compel a DNA sample or something. Just so forensics has something to compare trace evidence against.

This reminds me of when Game Wardens put a fake deer by the road, and wait for someone to shine thier headlights on the deer and shoot it.

The Wardens get convictions in these cases because they have the hunters on video shooting what they think is a live deer.
