Somewhere, someone who plays half as well as this guy is spending $2000 on a guitar hoping he will play better on the higher end guitar.

Any good picker will tell you that the player is 10000000x important than the rig.

I laugh my arse off when I see some dude walk into a Sam Ashe or Guitar Center wanting to buy a 3k Les Paul when he knows three chords.

I know.

I'm a musician on the side also although my genre isn't pop.

But, you get it in all types of music. Half assed musicians who keep buying new and better gear, mouthpieces, whatever in order to "sound better".

I once saw Wynton Marsalis at a workshop play a plastic trumpet and he sounded better than 95% of all trumpet players I've ever met.

Meh. They should be looking for a beatup guitar to play on.

Based on the your op and the first few responses, the tone of this thread is going to bug the shite out of me, but I do want to say how awesome those dudes were.

Jack White jammed a Montgomery Ward mail order Airline guitar in ball and biscuit. Shredded it hard.

I've done business with LP and he'll tell you the same thing, the man is incredibly humble person, doh

That was me in 8th grade. Couldn't play for shite and my parents bought me a brand new '81 Les Paul Custom Black Beauty w/ gold hardware. Got it for $600 at a going out of business sale (they were around $1,100 at Werlein's back then). Still have it in excellent condition, and still suck at playing.

One of my favorite players is Jack Pearson, probably a thousand videos of him on YouTube, including his time in the Allman brothers, he has been gigging in Nashville for a long time with a Squire strat he paid 90 bucks for.

Hard to believe that yesterday was the 6th anniversary of LP's death. Time flies.
