And away we go. Seriously though, street robberies and shootings are starting to encroach on areas where tax payers congregate. No Bueno.

A 29-year-old man was shot early Friday morning (June 3) during an armed robbery on St. Charles Avenue at Lee Circle, New Orleans police said. The man's condition wasn't immediately available. Lee Circle reopened at 7:30 a.m. after being closed for about three hours. Streetcars are operating now as well.
quote:
According to preliminary information from NOPD, the victim was at Lee Circle near the intersection of St. Charles Avenue and Andrew Higgins Street when an armed man approached him and demanded his money. The victim refused, and the two men began fighting. The suspected robber then pulled out a gun and fired three times, hitting the victim once. Police did not say how severe the man's injuries were. The gunman and possibly another man fled with the victim's money and a bag.

There is no description of the gunman which, in today's world, confirms that the shooter was black.

The victim took that armed robbery like a boss.

I generally agree with this but this was also included:

No description was immediately available of the suspects.

When someone points a gun at you. Just give them whatever bullshite material possessions they ask a for and they'll leave. Argue with them and you get shot.
No item in your pockets is worth dying over

New NOLA article
They knew each other. Arguing over owed money at 4:30 am. Not really worried about this one.

"It had something to do with money," he said. The person he presumed to be the shooter said something along the lines of, "You owe me," he said.

Especially if you owe the gunman money

Can't we just rename Lee Circle but leave the statue?
Tell everybody it's Malcolm X.

As someone who practices active self protection, not only in the form of being a concealed carrier, but in the way I avoid bad situations to begin with, I see way too many mistakes and lessons that can be learned from this brief story.
1.Why are you out, by yourself, at 4:30 AM in a city known for its crime rates? Stands to chance he may have been inebriated, therefore making himself vulnerable.
2. Practice situational awareness, and maintain your reactionary gap. Lee Circle has hotels and gas stations on it. When you see the suspect approaching, create distance, and cover. Put a barrier between you and the suspect... better yet, get inside one of the store or hotels. The likelihood of the robbery taking place in front of others severely decreases.
3. De-escalate whenever possible. 99.9% of the time, giving the money up, ensures that the situation dissipates. The suspect wanted money, not to shoot the victim. They print new money every day, give it up.
4.If you MUST engage in a fight, ensure you have a force multiplier (gun or other weapon), or at the very least be certain that your assailant does NOT have one.
5. If you MUST engage in the fight, have the standing and ground skills necessary to win.
6.Realize when you are outnumbered.
7. Practice spiritual fitness. If the victim is severely wounded, I hope he has the peace of mind with his spiritual well-being.

He should probably have put his hands up in the air and just ran the other direction like a Loony Toon's character.

Mundane stories of out-of-control black criminality in New Orleans bore me. Do you have anything with a gorilla being shot at a zoo or maybe somebody made a slur against a transgendered person of color who wants a cake or is trying to take a shite or both? I like those stories more.

I thought part of the thrill of Nola is the chance of getting shot? Isn't that part of the famous culcha
