The state's trying to get ahead of the game before the Saints can threaten moves to St Louis or San Diego and blackmail us into a brand new $3 billion stadium.
Consider. Tom Benson is 90 years old. Gayle Benson didn't buy an NFL team. Does she actually want to be an owner or is she willing to cash out and move on? Some billionaire with no Louisiana ties buys the team and moves the to the first place willing to build that $3 billion stadium.

How many times have the lights caused trouble in the other 6 Super Bowls? How about all the Sugar Bowls? New Orleans Bowls? Saints games? Bayou Classics? LHSAA State Championships? Or any of the thousands of games played there?
Electrical trouble one game and the stadium is "piss"? Give me a break. It needs work no doubt, but it is far from a shitty stadium.
My biggest issue is the concourse area compared to other stadiums, and that is one of the main areas being addressed.

I disagree. There's too much value to the franchise HERE.
Say what you want about New Orleans as a viable "big market" city, but the Saints "market" basically covers Lake Charles to Pensacola, northward for pretty much all of Lousisiana, all of Mississippi, most of Alabama, and a large part of the panhandle of Florida.
The NFL doesn't want to leave such a huge gap to go God knows where.
Anyone who buys them (someone will eventually - it may not be someone from here) would be insane to throw away such an established entity.

The OT never fails in its retardedness.
They aren't going anywhere.

No state money for N O. Remove LSP from French Quarter. It is their cesspool, let them swim in it.

Will the state money that you save by doing that make up the money the state will lose when the 10.45 million people who visited NOLA last year stop coming? Not only do you lose the sales tax from them, you also lose the income tax from all the newly unemployed workers in the hospitality industry. But sure let's cut off our nose to spite our face.

What is the return on the investment? Change my mind. Edit, our investment in the saints specifically, not nola tourism in general.

They may not go anywhere....probably just wishful thinking

Well, the narrative went like this...we don't care what you (ppl outside of NOLA) think about the statues, that's our business and we're going to do what we want...
Well, many of "those ppl" are conservative Louisianians outside of NOLA and don't agree with what happened. Does anyone really think that they are going to want to pay for the Dome improvements? Probably will be political suicide for those state legislators. Add in the state is broke, and the Dome improvements are DOA from a state standpoint.
City has no money and has a mayor who has put NOLA on a liberal island in a conservative state. This will be funded 100% by the Saints or it won't happen. This is not trolling but a political reality. Talk to ppl outside of NOLA, and see what they think. Many won't set foot in the city anymore, let alone use their tax money to benefit it.
And in the NFL world, an old stadium is like the Titanic, doomed to sink. Sorry if that's not what some of you want to hear, but put your reality cap on.
Mitch has stirred up a hornets nest with his left wing radical friends, first the statues now the Tigers. That action will cost the city the Saints, but honestly with the State broke, that was happening anyway.

Benson will be long dead by then and we'll be in the middle of a game of thrones style contest for control of the team. There's gonna be murder and intrigue and lesbians, it'll be awesome.

State has no money but they want to renovate the Superdome. Never change LA. Never change.
