That hurricane deductible is a loss that can be claimed under your taxes. I have no problem with the 5% deductible

That's a good point. I seem to remember that they jacked-up their premiums last year...

Yes, but so do the major companies in major cats. SF, FB, LM, Allstate, and even Safeco, USAA, and ASI will be able to outbid Maison and the others during those times, bro.

I remember having to defend these companies too.

I'd go with ASI before almost any of these other independent companies. They have a decent policy, despite a few gaps and the large rate increases over the past few years. However, they did plant with some shitty agents who can sell you a stripped down policy and leave you exposed.

Yup.
Have a few good buddy's who are with them... They have an office in every parish. Again, the rates all depend on what parish you are in and if you are in the wind pool.
Have my home, autos and life with them.

Not to mention that the policy will pay only for the damage caused by the storm and nothing for the arson fire.... that would be one hell of a funny slap back in the face

OP clearly hasn't seen that big billboard in Slidell: "INSURANCE FRAUD? WE WILL CATCH YOU!"

Cracks me up every time. Oh, right, I was just fixing to commit some insurance fraud, thank God I saw this billboard though. Your tax dollars at work baby.

2% with Liberty Mutual

FWIW, I heard that SF is slowly attempting to work their way out the Gulf Coast states

Mine WAS $1,000 with ASI
b/c they kept jacking my premiums. When we bought the house 3 years ago my annual premium was +/- $800. My next renewal in September is almost $1500. Switching to Liberty Mutual for better coverage and $300 less.

You are correct regarding SF leaving the Gulf States.

I just found this out. Also my agent is going crazy in that they can no longer write in Ponchatoula and Springfield. I am getting ready to switch everything to USAA.

Yeah I talked an employee of my old agent at SF recently. She lives in Carter Plantation at they won't write her policy

9% increase in your bill and less coverage.

Why don't they call it your bill and not a premium? It is a bill. It's not anything special if you call it a premium.

Not only did they increase the hurricane deductible from 2% up to 5%, they did not lower the rates accordingly and the rates actually went up. AND, they didn't even advise the homeowners that they were doing it. You found out when you got your insurance renewed and received your policy.

Pretty crappy of them. It's clear they are wanting to get out of the market in the gulf states. I get them doing it, but not even a phone call from your agent letting you know it was coming so you could shop around?

And it's not all big companies doing it, most are at 2%.

No named storm deductible with Safeco. Just the regular one.
