Due to the lack of any quality gyms in my current city, I'm looking for a quality piece of equipment to setup in my apartment.

Anyone have a garage setup they'd recommend?

Dick's has one. It's a good price but you need to buy the bars and weights. That's where they get ya.

It would have to be a Chinese ripoff (the shirt that is).

Get a nice power rack, bench and bar. For weights, take a scale down to dicks and get you a 300 lbs set, weigh each weight though and get the ones most accurate or if you want rubber weights, mdusa or rogue are prolly your best bet price vs quality wise, fringesport is another good one.

power rack comp.
bench comp.

great bench for the money

fold away rack from rogue

best bar for the money

I plan to get the weights and bars here in Africa. I don't have to worry much with the quality of those items. I can have the rack shipped over from the US on my company. I don't want some Chinese made rack collapsing on me in my flat.

dunno why you are laughing chad, my rack, bench, bars are top of the line and are better than 99% of gyms. Now sucks not having some of the machines but I am working on that.

if you are really in africa, make sure you get a bolt together rack so shipping is much much cheaper.

Someone would have to pay an insane amount of money to get equipped up to standards of 95% of gyms out there. Plus it consumes too much of a normal person's living space in life for such equipment.

I am which is why I put this question out there. Everything here is Chinese made so I don't trust the quality. I'll be back in the US next month for 10 days and it makes sense for me to get a quality bolt together unit flown over.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I'm in Africa living in a company provided flat. What I'm calling a apartment is probably not the same as what you have in mind.
I have the entire floor of the apartment building for myself.

ETA - Anything I put together in my flat will be 100% better all of the gyms where I am.

bs, i have a elitefts rack and bench, texas power bar and a rogue ohio bar all for less than 1000 total. Add in powerblock dbs, rings, homemade pullup bar and a prowler sled I have everything i need for less than 2500.

Key is finding good deals on craigslist and being ready to jump on them when you do. And for some of us its less about the money than convenience.

If you're mostly sticking to barbell and dumbell stuff most of the equipment in a commercial gym is useless to you anyway.

You'd be surprised. A rack, a bench, weight, and some adjustable dumbbells. As far as adjustable dumbbells, PowerBlocks can't be beat. I can do nearly anything I want at any time. I can even do curls in the rack. Unlike going to the gym, I don't have to wait for equipment.
