My truck makes me $.25/mile profit on average and I drive 3K-4K miles per month. Its not much but its better than costing me money.

I told him thanks for giving me something to do for an hour, but there was no way I'd buy the truck from him. He got pissed and stormed off. I was happy.

We basically used same tactic to get gf a car few months ago. But I pulled out the print out of the kbb and their own listing and said 'we need the price to fall in this range' . They did it without much hassle. We just all pretended like he wasn't just trying to make 3k more on it 5 minutes before.

I have a real POS car I got for 3500 in 2011. I've made at least 15k in tips and 16k in wages in almost 3 years at the pizza parlor.

If he's gonna be that shady, I'd just as soon go to the guy who's desk is right next to him. IDGAF who sells me a truck. If you're gonna be a frick-head, I'm gonna be a frick-head

If you can afford to, I don't see why you wouldn't want to buy new. I get you can save a couple thousand with pre-owned, but why not get something you know has never been driven before and you know the exact history of anything ever done with/to it.

I bought new in early 2013 and after I pay it off, I plan on going to trade it in towards something else new in order to keep my maximum value rolling. Not to mention, that would allow me to have a relatively new car at all times with an exponentially less chance of needing major repairs.

To me, you'll save a ton if you pay a car off in full and ride it "til it blows up" as they say, but then you have minimum trade in value left and the money you saved you'll most likely be forking right over in a down payment on your next car.

LOL, some people can't think for themselves.

Everyone knows the benefits of buying new vs buying used. There are situations where buying new is the right move for the customer. Some cars hold their value extremely well. Or you can buy a lemon that ends up breaking down every other month. We've all seen both situations. You can make good new car purchases and poor used car purchases.

To answer the OP, I don't think there's such a thing as getting ripped off as long as comfortable during the buying process and you're buying within your means.

When buying a new car nowadays, they are marked down so much, it is really worth it. Couple that with low APR and a 100k warranty, and it is a good idea.

Take a truck for example. A Ford F150 Lariat 4x4 is listed at sticker for let's say $48k. Do some e-shopping and combine that with rebates, and you'll be out of there for $35-38k easily. Lower APR than a used one, and getting warranty work is easy because you are the original owner and don't have to go through paperwork

It is really something to think about

If I agree to the price, I'm not getting ripped off unless there are hidden issues with the car.

Easy. If someone else pays less for the same car, I got ripped off.

But it really means I did not do my homework or sucked at negotiations.

Keeping your warranty intact is pretty huge as well.

When I was a kid back in the early 80s, I used to love car shopping with my dad. He'd buy a new Caddy or Lincoln every year, and he paid cash for everything. He'd shoot for 28-35% off sticker, and things were different back then cause he always got it. He'd go to every freaking dealer in the city and play one against the other til he got his deal. He is still the same way. He was looking at a big Sea Ray motoryacht a few years back and told them he would pay $175K and not a penny more. He drove back and forth to Florida for over a year, and eventually they had to let the boat go at his price. I'd try to tell him that he had the cash, and that was an entire year he could have been enjoying that boat. All he cared about was getting HIS deal.
