Can you start a spin off thread about tipping at sonic? The OT lives that one and we haven't had our weekly sonic tipping thread this week.

Exactly. I dealt with this type of person for years. The type of person who is pissed off and hostile the moment they sit down. They are already analyzing everything little thing you do or say in order to justify not tipping.

Not really.....the problem is the "concept" of tipping. Tipping was based ENTIRELY on the waiter providing good service. Today most waiters believe they're ENTITLED to a good tip even when they provide shitty service.

If they don't make any tips, the employer is mandated by law to make up the difference. Therefore they will make AT LEAST minimum wage regardless.

If you look at recommended tipping rates apparently tipping is expected in a lot of places that many people don't realize. For example, the recommendation for tipping your hotel maid is $5/night.

I agree. Laugh all you want, the service industry can be extremely difficult (depending upon the employee's work ethic). I think it's absolutely b.s. they don't receive minimum and make off tips.

I never knew this. Is it a Federal law?

That said, I doubt the employer always follows the mandated law.

Well then it seems the law is pretty fricked on this issue. Let's make changes from the inside and see how it goes.

BTW I tip around 20% every time I go to a restaurant. I just think if one job deserves tipping, all do. I believe in "all or nothing" for this issue.

Yes it's federal law. And I think most employers will provide the make up pay if its warranted. However if a restaurant/bar is the least bit busy even the most average of servers are going to make more than minimum wage in tips. So if a particular server keeps saying that they are short and needs the make up pay, the employer is quickly going to rightfully determine that the employee is either lying about the tips they receive in order to get extra pay from the employer or the really suck at being a server if they can't even make $5/hour in tips to get them over minimum wage.

Or let the market set the rate, just a crazy thought.

DR: quick note- causing the restaurant to more than triple the hourly salary of the majority of the employees will absolutely --- not --- raise the prices of the food...

PS - if you can't afford the tip, stay home and cook. Lazy and/or poor fricker.
