What makes people say they are bad for you? The urban legends of heart attacks backed by one incident of a 10 yr old who drink 20 red bulls? Same people bitching about energy drinks have 2 pots of coffee minimum followed up by Cinnamon rolls. Everything in moderation

I've been drinking at least one a day for at least nine years and I'm 32 and fine, at least according to my physicals every May and my single digit body fat percentage.
As long as you don't have a pre-existing heart problem -- don't worry. Don't fall victim to the dumb masses and group think:
Via Caffeine Informer
Monster Rehab Energy Drink - 161 mg
Monster Ultra Energy Drink - 140 mg
Starbucks Grande Caffe Mocha - 175mg
Starbucks Iced Espresso - 225 mg

SFRB sustained my life when I worked in restaurant/bar. No way I could work doubles without that.

The caffeine content on a 5 hour is pretty high. I think if you have a couple of sugar free red bulls over the course of a day, that's OK. Mega cans of sugar laced Rockstar and Monster probably aren't too good for you.

"What makes people say they are bad for you?"
Well, i honestly dont know how bad they are for the average dude. I will say that they werent doing me any favors. Granted, i'm around 40. I think younger dude can drink a couple a day for a few months and maybe no big deal.
I quit drinking them in 2011. I quit because i just ran out of gas. Exhaustion. I dont know if drinking them caused it or drinking them was just a symptom of preexisting exhaustion.

For healthy adults with no medical issues, it is generally agreed upon that 300mg-400mg of caffeine can be consumed daily without any adverse effects.¹ This is equivalent to about: 5.2 Shots of espresso Two 5 Hour Energy Shots 1 Starbucks Venti brewed coffee 2.5 16 fl.oz. Monster Energy Drinks 5 8 fl.oz. Red Bulls 11.7 12 fl.oz. Cokes
I think when it comes to your basic energy drink, the acids/sugar that jack up your teeth and make you fat are the worse thing for you. Cant go wrong with coffee though

This is a summation of what my doctor told me and why I decided to quit drinking them and just stick to coffee: In moderation, they aren't going to kill you unless you have an underlying heart condition that would likely put you off of caffeine as well. It's not the caffeine content you should be worried about. Most of them contain significantly less caffeine than coffee, though there are certain less-mainstream energy drinks that contain substantially more. For a healthy adult, the biggest con is probably that it's a waste of money. The additional sugar has its obvious problems. But also, the vitamins and other "natural energy boosters" in the drink will, at best, make you pee brighter colors, and at worst, their additional neurological effects will be overshadowed by the caffeine but still contribute to temporarily increased heart rate and slightly higher blood pressure.

I used to drink 1-2 a day years ago.
Now if I drink half of a 8oz Red Bull and I'm bouncing off of the fricking walls because I never drink energy drinks or coffee anymore except in rare circumstances.
If you are drinking these at such a rate that you are asking how many you're drinking "per day," then you're already drinking too many.

Back when I did shift work at Canes, we would guzzle down Monsters and Red Line. We were basically forced to stop when one idiot who just started chugged a Red Line and got heart palpitations.

500mg or 600mg of caffeine per day is the FDA safe upper limit if I remember correctly. Too lazy to google recs right now.
The sugar can't be good though. Drink diet ones.

Vyvanse/Adderall XR + coffee is a much better alternative. 1 or 2 of those little dudes and a 1/2 cup or so of good coffee works wonders for me after eating a good breakfast.

Well yea dude. Caffeine is a shitty stimulant, amphetamines are great stimulants

It's not an isolated case and not an urban myth. We are seeing more and more people coming in with various "EKG changes" and arrhythmia with no previous history. Workout stimulants included as well. Cup of coffee is roughly 95mg/serving of caffeine, where as energy drinks can be as high as 250mg/serving. But it's not just the caffeine in energy drinks it's the other herbals added as well as the Sugar content.
You are deluding yourself if you think these are not doing damage to your cardiovascular system.
