And they pay handsomely for that assumption

Perception is reality.

All manufacturers tolerate a certain amount of failure from their suppliers. Toyota upped the tolerance (and got lower prices) from their suppliers a few years ago and their quality is about the same as Ford and GM.

The general public, believing what they learned in the 90's is still valid, tolerates dated interiors and older engine tech to get that "quality".

OK, then.

I love how they brag about how reliable their 2014 is

How the hell do you know? Any truck you buy today should get you to 100-150k with minimal service.

They're OK, but tons of dorks out there bolt all sorts shite on them and suddenly think they're expedition vehicles. Just makes them ugly IMO.

What is the overall opinion of trucks from Toyota?
on my 3rd Tundra - 245,000 on my 2001 - no problems, 175,000 on my 2006 no problems and now have 30,000 on my 2014 crewcab 4/4 - no problems - except the 2014 with the big engine gets around 16 mpg - it is whatever you like - Ford and Chevy makes good trucks also - Dodge not so much - going by the vehicles we had down in Argentina 4/4's they didn't hold up too well.

I wanted to buy a Tacoma, but they are "bare bones" trucks. Nice, but not very many bells and whistles. To get one with more stuff, you have to pay through the schnozola PLUS there was only ONE "Limited" in a 5 state area....think they would discount it? NOT.

I ended up with a CPO 4Runner instead and couldn't be more pleased with it.

Once again, my "overall opinion.
