They are not supposed to get it right. SpaceX is a distraction to help keep the public dumbed down.

Damn, you should have tweeted that to Elon Musk long ago, he probably never thought of that!!!

Not in this case at all. Pretty sure manned missions won't be riding the rockets back down.

Edit: in fact, they couldn't ride the rockets back down like they are doing now.

Fact! SpaceX will use the Dragon2 spacecraft when it carries human cargo. The Dragon 2 is super fancy corporate version of the Soyuz spacecraft or the old apollo spacecraft. Humans will not be onboard when the Falcon9 rocket attempt to land on the barge.

NASA had 14 rocket launch failures in their first 10 years of existence. SpaceX has had 2.

You realize that was the 1960s compared to the 2010s. The "technology and stuff" is a little more advanced these days.

You do realize that SpaceX is not NASA, and that the only way to learn how to prevent these things is for them to happen, examine the data, and not make the same mistakes again or take steps to protect against them, don't you? If these rockets keep blowing up for the exact same reason then that is a problem, but if it is for new reasons each time that is called growing pains.

Upper stage boom. Wonder why they were filling that part for a main stage test firing. Maybe you can't just fill one LOX tank.

They've blown up many rockets trying to land on a barge. Not a launch but they were trying to find ways to salvage the boosters and stuff.

Yes, they've lost them trying to land on a moving barge in the middle of the ocean. The fact that they've had success with it is amazing

I always wonder what the guys in Launch Control say after this. Do they sit around and look at each other? Try to look busy? Get a coffee and sneak off to home early? It's not like there is much for them to do.

They do a fully integrated test fire, so all payloads are loaded, the rocket is fully fueled, and all controls and guidance are running. The differences between launch and test pretty much all come after t-0.00, mainly the thrust profile is a quick ramp up to 100% power for a second or two and the hold-downs/umbilicals don't release during the test. If anything with the launch vehicle turns up anomalous during the static test fire, like the upper stage detonating, they'll know it before launch.

The shuttle didn't do a static test fire, but the 6 or so seconds between main engine start and SRB ignition while the rocket stack flexed and rocked back through vertical was essentially the static test fire for the stack.
