"The Queen exclaimed ‘Someone must have greased the brakes’ in reaction to hearing about Princess Diana's car crash, according to Ingrid Seward’s new book, ‘An Intimate Portrait of the Queen in Her Own Words’"

What would greasing the brakes do? It's metallic on metal high speed friction. It would wear off mostly before the brakes were even touched. It's not drum brakes.

You know how oil/grease works? It leaves a tiny film over everything. The good stuff works its way into the smallest pores and stays there. It's why they have brake parts cleaner

Do you know how brakes work?

They constantly wear and create a new surface.

Brake parts cleaner is to remove the dust and other grime on components.

I mean grease may leave a mark on a brake pad, I doubt it would cause it to fail.

In fact in wanting to reply to your post, I couldn't find any instance of brake failure attributed to grease on the rotors.

I don't believe it happened in that case because weren't they driving before all of that shite went down? Damn, that was a long time ago.

Good grease most certainly needs to be chemically cleaned off. Like I said, the good stuff works its way into pores in the surface, and you can't just wear that off quickly, but the brakes wouldn't have worked period if it had been applied before hand

I'm sure she was shocked, shocked, that "someone" greased the brakes.

I'm sure there are some polymers. Kind of want to see it go to mythbusters.

This is correct, it leaves a film that has to be clean with vinegar or something similar. We deal with this problem a lot in my industry.

I respect both of y'all, N & H, but I don't think that whether or not greasing the brakes in 1997 would have been the cause of Diana's death is what mattered but rather that the Queen immediately suspected tampering of some sort, even an old-fashioned kind.

By telling me this, there is a 50% chance I will buy it from under you if it's within 30 miles of me.

a 1995 speed queen will last until 2095.
