I'm building a house and had my AC units installed about 2 weeks ago. Apparently someone decided to help themselves to one of the units Sunday night. Is this some kind of recent thing crack heads do for money? I filed a police report and gave them the serial number. Anything else I could do? No cameras were on site at the time but we are in the process of having them installed now.

Well, the macro environment is improving, as the WSJ reported, "Copper prices rose Tuesday, buoyed by a weaker dollar and rising prices for oil."

Should've electrified it and locked off the breaker box.

It use to be common after Katrina.
One house I chased the same group of meth heads off the property six times.
They would get in and strip the house of electrical wiring for the copper.
I had friends that were builders that had to have someone watch their homes at night to control the thefts.

Power company came to switch us over to permanent power Monday. This happened Sunday night. Perfect timing by the thieves.

They should be insured through builder's risk insurance.

Yeah, it was probably a sub that worked on your house that stole it.

They stole one unit but there's another not visible from the road. If it was an inside job I figured they would have stolen both plus all the tools I had inside.

Oh and Pedro said it wasn't his people and I believe him.

My neighbor was having his house built and contracting it out himself. Shows up to pour his slab early one morning and something didn't look right. Cement contractor shows up and ask him why he didn't get the plumber to run the pipe before you called me to pour a slab. That's when he realized someone stole all of his copper pipe that the plumbers laid down the previous day.
