The Big trucks, the toys, the money? It comes with a price...
Try packing all your things in front of your Wife/Girlfriend and or kids knowing they are hurting to see you leave. Try staring at the clock hoping that last day home goes slower than usual. Try getting in your vehicle with your kids and wife staring out the windows and door. Try driving down the road with tears in your eyes. Try hoping you forgot something so you can turn around for one more hug, one more kiss or one more I love you. And you haven't even made it to work for your first day. And there's always at least 2 or 3 weeks at a time depending on the job, most of the time more. Your Head and Heart will be heavy. It'll never get easier.
Think about that next time you think it must be nice. It's hard and you'll sacrifice a lot. Mostly time.
This is for all my buddies out there making the sacrifice. Stay Safe and know I love each one of y'all out there!!!

there is a good reason that jobs which require a lot of travel pay good money...and you just spelled it out nicely. folks make a damn good living doing that kind of work (i.e. pipeline, offshore, sales, military, etc.), but they sacrifice a whole lot to make it happen.

I get what you're saying but I know plenty of construction workers living within driving distance of BR who never spend a night away from home. And they make great money while seeing their family every day.

I always enjoy the spring break memes where shop hands and offshore baws post a picture of guys on rigs as "real men" and a bunch of dudes pounding beers on the sand as some kind of hilarious comparison.
