You couldn't pay me to go into the city this weekend.

Why? There is no spike in crime whatsoever during Essence Fest. Unless you're afraid of gospel music or black people in general.

The shooter was a troubled Vietnamese guy from the West Bank. How does that implicate the 'Essence crowd?'

This.

On the one hand, the pure ignorance and knee-jerk racism in this thread makes me sad. On the other hand, it makes me glad y'all had to eat it last week RE: your precious confederate flag...

If anyone actually cares about the facts, read on. Otherwise, GFY (that stands for "go frick yourself", Jim Bob)....

I've been to Essence Fest a ton of times, and I've never had anything like an unpleasant experience. (FWIW I'm a white guy). About 2/3 of the people in the dome are women, mostly in groups, and many from out of town. Typical group: three or four GFs from Atlanta or Dallas, very nicely dressed, just having fun. Booze in the Dome is expensive, so very few people are really wasted. If you're into urban music, it's a cool (literally, air conditioned), safe experience.

I'll be there Sunday, with my GF, for Kendrick Lamar, Trombone Shorty, & Mary J. Blige.

I hope all you racist haters choke on chicken bone.

It's the same rhetoric every year for Essence & Bayou classic. New Orleans will be a mad house and the whole place will go under.

Looking at the lineup, it actually has a few I wouldn't mind seeing. Some old school stuff like Doug E Fresh and newer ones like Usher, who I happen to think is surprisingly talented....But way down near the end of the list is a lady by the name of Teedra Moses....I wouldn't mind knowing a little more about this lady!

I would go watch Deepak Chopra and Steve Harvey if I knew I wouldn't be the only white dude there.

I went one weekend without knowing it was going on. It was pretty much 95% middle aged middle class black people. There very Dr. Huxtable looking.

There are probably three active black posters on this board. Big sample you have.
