I'm waiting for David Allan Coe to be added here shortly. He would add a unique element of music and lyrics to such a broad-visioned festival!

If you want to see something beautiful, check out the NO airport on the Monday morning after the festival. Nothing better than an airport literally full of tired, hungover (or maybe even still drunk) essence fans having to stand in line for more than 2 hours to get thru security.

I made the mistake of flying out on that day several years ago. I still have flashbacks to some of the aromas.

Burning to the ground would be a good start.

New Orleans would be lucky to have 3 shootings from 10-12am let alone the whole weekend.

It's the same rhetoric every year for Essence & Bayou classic. New Orleans will be a mad house and the whole place will go under.

because black people will be there? Maybe you should sever all ties to New Orleans then.

Bayou Classic actually does bring riff raff around. I've never heard of anything bad happening due to Essence. I've been in the Quarter during Essence more than once and the city is no more or less safe than any other time of year. Some of the Essence attendees are likely better off than some of the morons commenting here.

Yeah, I probably shouldn't group the two events together. But the same thing is said about each event in the yearly threads that pop up.

In a previous job, I was heavily involved in putting on a conference for about 750 people for about 7 years. We always had it either the week before or within 2 weeks after Essence. I cannot remember hearing one positive thing that anyone involved with the hotels and vendors I dealt with had to say about the "festival".

I've been in the Quarter during the festival as well, and it was quite uneventful.

I don't doubt that it's a crappy weekend for those in the service or hospitality industry. We've all heard the stories about tipping, or lack thereof. That's still a far cry from ignorantly saying that the city degenerates into Mogadishu overnight and is unsafe for everyone else, like it's some crime-free paradise to begin with.

The shooter was a troubled Vietnamese guy from the West Bank. How does that implicate the 'Essence crowd?'

Trust me, they bitched about what a pain in the arse your group was, too.

That's what they do.
