Comes across my phone asking for help from friends to renovate a house that is planned to be rented out. Looking for help on physical labor as opposed to hiring contractors or doing it themselves, I imagine.

This is bothering me more than it should.

How would the OT respond?

Also, I don't know where this falls on a trashy scale.

What kind of help? Physical labor? Monetary support?

Asking for money would piss me off significantly more than asking for help with tearing out floors.

Whatever happened to helping your neighbor/friends?

Farmers help each other all of the time with the understanding the help would be reciprocated in the future.

I'd help my friend all for the low low price of pizza and beer

Ask for shares in the rental since you are about to make an investment in it.

Meh, it depends how good a friend they are.

I wouldn't mind helping a friend with some stuff if I had a free weekend provided that he supplies the food and brews.

A couple of questions. Are they friends or good friends? Have they helped you before? The most important question. Is there free beer?

To be fair, there really isn't much help available. Reputable contractors are 50 clients deep at the moment.

Any other day I'd tell you to clown them as lazy, but the situation around here is unique right now. I hope they at least offered beer or dinner?

What kind of friend? How old? I mean if you are in your early 20s, it's a good friend, and they just need a half day or so of labor tearing something out for pizza and beer, I don't see an issue at all.

If you are 50, it's a casual acquaintance type of friend, and they want you to help re tile a bathroom or paint or something petty then hell no.

definitely on the scale, I get asked to help with things a lot because I know construction and have all of the tools to do things like that, but it would have to be a close friend or relative to pitch in and completely renovate a house like that for gratis
