I think it's more that you're arguing against the leaders of the church while I'm defending its followers. I'm sure if agree with much of what you say if you gave me a course in Anti-Scientology 101, but I'd still defend its followers.

Ok, everything has to start somewhere. And neither is old at all in the context of life in general.

Dude, I literally keep saying that "Christianity is older so that gives it merit" is not my argument.

quote:

"21st century Christians are not evil"
Ok, and maybe 41st century Scientology leaders won't be either.

I don't give a frick about 41st century Scientology leaders. I'm saying that Scientology exists as it is now and it is a terrible organization. Are you saying that I should look the other way on their evils for 2000 years to give them a chance?

Ok, if your argument is that the leaders are money hungry shitbags, I agree with you.

as I already stated that I think all religions are one in the same
that's a pretty bad assumption to make. That's assuming people are the same...josef stalin and eddie van halen are not the same. Moreover, and I can not say this enough,

SCIENTOLOGY IS NOT A RELIGION

They worship no deity
They offer no explanations for the origins
They are unconcerned with the afterlife
They don't even have a system of values

They simply tell you that your soul is poisoned by dead aliens, thus you are a negative nancy, give us your money and through e meter sessions we'll slowly cleanse you of these thetans

of course each level is more $ (this part people do look down on, but again it's pretty far down the totem pole of fricked up shite people disapprove of)

anyway, in no fricking way is it a church despite the name "church" of Scientology.

I not only believe that their leaders are money hungry shitbags, I also do not believe their leaders even believe their "religion." I believe Scientology is specifically created to extract money from its members. This is different from Christianity where you do have some individual corrupt churches that are run like businesses, but the religion on the whole is legitimately believed by its leaders.

My second post doesn't contradict the first statement.

I'm 100% against the entire organization...I realize many members are victims (being blackmailed, intimidated and coerced into staying) but I believe in individual responsibility.

The entire organization, top to bottom...repugnant

I wrote an excellent research paper in college...it started with groups the country of Germany classifies as "sects" and slowly narrowed to Scientology the more I read...and you have to dig, because they pay good money so that it isn't instantly accessible with a simple google search. I had to go to the library...do you know how antiquated that shite is?

Well that's just random.

quote:

SCIENTOLOGY IS NOT A RELIGION

They worship no deity

Sounds to me as though they are each their own. And to become their best, they must release their parasitic alien friends.

quote:

They offer no explanations for the origins

Maybe they're smart enough to know better

quote:

They are unconcerned with the afterlife

Who said religion has to have an end game? Or that it had to be decided and discussed
quote:

They don't even have a system of values

Sounds to me as though they value happiness.

quote:

They simply tell you that your soul is poisoned by dead aliens, thus you are a negative nancy, give us your money and through e meter sessions we'll slowly cleanse you of these thetans

I already stated the leaders may be jackasses, but that doesn't change the fact that their message has gained steam. Beliefs are just that, beliefs. That would be how any and all religions started.

quote:

of course each level is more $ (this part people do look down on, but again it's pretty far down the totem pole of fricked up shite people disapprove of)

This bothers me personally, but in the grand scheme of things, what church doesn't guilt trip you into donating money? At least they're upfront and honest about it.

You're either a complete moron, or just arguing for the sake of arguing at this point.

You really need to read up on just how bad Scientology is.

There are a few pastors that will/have used Christianity as a way to screw people out of their savings but that number is pretty small in comparison to how large the Christian following is.

Scientology robbing people then making them "disappear" when they are broke and no longer offer anything to the church is pretty standard.

It's ludicrous to compare Christianity to Scientology in any capicity.
