The salesperson is probably tired of getting customers doing this back and forth game. I get that customers are trying to get the best deal they can, but from the salespersons perspective, it gets old.
Boo fricking hoo.

No way I'd buy from the first guy. I don't play that "feel sorry for me" game when buying something of that value. I once had a salesperson tell me that he only made $50 off the car after knocking $2K off the sticker as he was handing me the keys. I told him up until that I thought the experience was nice, but that was bullshite.

Wow. Tell that guy to GFH and then email a pic of You with the new truck. It's your money, not his.

I'm pretty sure when he sent that email he was abandoning that sale
Sending him a pic with a new truck is not gonna hurt his feelings that much
It could maybe get him in trouble with his boss but I wouldn't do that to a person

Went to Capital GMC yesterday at lunch with a coworker. He was just shooting the shite with a sales woman that came out. He asked what incentives there were. She went on about fleet pricing, and a discount because of our employer...
Then he was just kind of trying to gauge how much they would take off the top, before any hard negotiations. She said "The price is the price. You find out the fleet pricing and take off your employer discount and that's your price."
That sounded strange, so he asked if there was any room to move the price after that number. She said "Nope, that's the price, there are no negotiations. You just pay it, it's so much easier now."
He asked what would separate them from the next dealer down the street, why would he buy from them if they aren't willing to come off of the price some... Her reply was "service after the sell"
So apparently, according to the Indian sales girl with 16 years experience, you just pay the price they ask and that's that. They don't negotiate anymore because it's easier this way!

Typically fleet pricing is pretty good honestly

We agreed upon a price, however I decided to check one more time before purchasing from Dealer 1.
you and he made a deal then you renegged? yeah, i'd be pissed too.

Agreeing to a price isn't a deal.

Ain't no deal until the ink is dry

All the people talking about it not being worth the time etc. are way off. My oldest brother sold cars for years and was a financial manager for a while at a Chrysler dealership. If the truck is $20k they're making at least $5k on it. The best deal they can offer still nets them $2-3k. Bought a Jeep grand Cherokee years back, was for sale at $25k loaded... they took everything but salesman commission off and the price dropped to $17k. Do not be fooled, there's a reason Tom Benson is the richest man in Louisiana. Cars sales is big time money, if dealership 1 won't work with you, move on, he's going to deal with 50 people this month on cars, and I promise there are 50 salespeople around town who would LOVE Your business.

Is that a long time to spend when buying a car?
It would be for me, my last truck took about 2 hours
I love how every jo blow off the street becomes a master negotiator when it's time to buy a car

agreeing to buy a specific thing for a certain price is a deal. obviously we didn't hear the conversations between the two, but negotiation typically has the two parties offering and counter-offering. when you "agree" on a price, it is likely something more than "if i decide to buy, $xxx will be the price." it's probably something closer to "i'll give $xxx" and "i'll take $xxx." that's a deal.

No it isn't.

Not in my eyes.

it was more of a handshake agreement it sounds like, but still, the salesman probably felt betrayed, but I'm sure it happens often enough for them

I'm sure he did, still doesn't make it a deal. I've had enough salesmen promise me stuff then not deliver when it came time to actually do the deal. It goes both ways.
Last car I bought I apparently angered the salesman so much that I didn't even get my box of sausage from Price LeBlanc Toyota
I thought about making them take the car back after that.
