I completely disagree. It would take a 13 yo with junior high coaches 15 minutes to get caught up to the skills that are taught at 8- 12 yo peewee

Statically, aren't the odds of your kid making it to the NBA far, far, far smaller than him making it in the NFL or MLB?

It's not about the actual coaching but you'd be surprised at the techniques being taught to the kids by age 10.

As to your kid example, his instincts, read/react, tackling, staying with or getting off a block will NO way in hell be on par with a kid who's got 5 years under the belt.

I know a good number of former D1 football players who are perfectly normal and have seen no ill effects after playing for many years.

I do as well. I believe the real damage comes from playing beyond the college level...not in all cases, but in the majority. The real damage is done in the NFL.

it's beyond that. a high school athlete can easily pick up football and excel. the best 2 players on my hs team started junior year, playing safety and wr. if you are athletic, football is probably one of the easiest sports to get into because outside of qb or line, the skills are pretty basic.

No question about that. I know a guy who played soccer and ran track his first three years of high school. Played football his senior year only and was the state MVP on defense that year. It was only 2A, but Curtis was in the district then.

Nope, and not just because of CTE. Still remember being on the field beside of my best friend in high school when he suffered a compound fracture of the leg.

He can play whatever he wants except for football.

I think what is lost here is the guy was a gifted athlete who could excel at many sports.

Most people know know that Michael Jordan ran a sub 50 400m in HS.(That will still get you a scholly offer or two).

Our very own Beer Man comes to mind as well. Didn't play a down of college ball after graduating from Grace King.

He was a freak. Second fastest in the 100 meters in Orleans Parish and a white boy.

I broke my leg bad in a rugby match. My foot dangling off hanging on by skin made people sick when EMS cut the sock off.
Dr. Frierson here in BR fixed me right up and was back at practice in 10 weeks and playing in 12 or so. You're a puss.

lol

Football is the easiest major team sport to pick up later in life. Mediocre college basketball players become HOFers in the NFL.

They have flag football leagues. I'll do that until they get bored with it or show potential.

My 11 year old is playing in the Under Armor flag leagues. Excellent skills position program.
