Not sure if this is the right board for it or not.

So I need to paint my house. It is a mix of brick and wood and the paint is ugly (peachish colored?), pealing everwhere, and I'm having to have work done on the eaves on part of it so that will need to be repainted anyways.

Anything I should know? Specific paint to get?

Also do I need to scrape all of the previous paint off the wood, and if so what tool should I use to do it?

And should I use roller (if so what kind) instead of a spray gun? I'm thinking so, it is a one story house and not huge really.

Should I power wash the brick before painting on it? And do I need to use a primer on it beforehand or just paint on there?

This. It's expensive, but it's clear you don't know the first thing about painting. Not trying to be a dick, but it's the exterior of your house, and you want it to look good.

Pressure wash the shite out of it using pressure to find bad paint spots. Get a paint scraper and scrape bad areas back far enough to get to an area with good adhesion. Prime bad spots with good exterior primer. Paint with high quality paint.

Ballpark guess how much would that run to paint a 2000 sqft house? Trying to think if the cost/benefit is worth it to hire someone.

It doesn't seem like it would be too difficult. I don't really want to pay someone $1000+ in labor (would that be accurate or more or less?) to paint it if I can do it.

Hmmm. Frickin houses, I want to go back to my apartment!

Without knowing the first thing I would guess it is well north of $1000

Seriously, hire someone. You don't know what you're doing (not making fun of you, I don't know tons of shite) and painting a house well is hard work and tricky.

If you do it yourself there's a really good chance you'll end up hiring someone after and wasting tons of time and materials.

Do it yourself. Unless you're a non-functioning retard, you can handle it. It's paint. You can't possibly frick it up unless you try.

One time in the Summer before Eighth Grade I was in the community pool alone with this girl from my class and she took her top off and let me look at and touch her boobies. We were going to talk about proper painting being 90% preparation and 10% application but we never got around to it.

Hope this helps.

Not a drop of paint should touch the bricks. You HAVE to use the right primer.

I've been a building inspector that did waterproofing inspections when I was younger. The only during recommendations that I have is to make certain they recaulk every window sill, for opening, wire penetration, etc; and make certain they use elastomeric caulk. It has a rubberized property, which allows for expansion and contraction, which helps tremendously.

I'd also get elastomeric paint. I'm not sure what the prices are for it vs other exterior paint. It's critical, imo for stucco exteriors, but for wood, you'll probably be fine getting a decent exterior paint.

I'm not sure if you're saying you have a brick fascia, or unfinished, painted cinder block. You should probably post a pic. But if you're painting it, clean it, and sand the wood a little bit, particularly around anything peeling, otherwise the paint won't bond correctly, and it'll look like crap. Get a power sander, or something to where you're not doing everything by hand, unless it's small remote areas.

Not sure on the primer, I've only done new construction and interior water issues.

2000+ for a legit paint contractor.

I got a mexican crew that will work for 200-250/day. I bet they can finish a house in 3 days.

How big of a house? How many painters, and how long did it take?
