So I made the mistake of trying to lookup an old friend on FB

I was really good friends with this guy when we were 13 - 15ish then lost contact. We both moved away to different schools. Back then he and his dad were all into racing dirtbikes and it stuck with me ever since then. I raced for years and now my kid is racing. I was telling my kid old stories about how I got into and got curious about how he was doing so I went to searching on Facebook. That was a bit of a mistake. I found out that he served in the Army and did a couple of tours over seas. He ended up suffering from PTSD and killed himself. This happened a few years ago, he left behind a wife and kid. Very sad, got me all bummed out when I read that.

It's sad what our veterans go through and how little help they receive for it, but some snowflake gets their feelings hurt and everyone under the damn sun is there to help them.

Yep. Those are the people that need real help

Not a snowflake who is offended because Ben Shapiro or Dennis Prager are speaking on their campus

We should stop getting involved in pointless wars.

This isn't 1975 post-Vietnam anymore. There are plenty of programs for Veterans. And they deserve them.

But don't go FoxNews and act like no one is caring for veterans.

I have no idea how much, or if any, help he received for it. I know there are programs, but we are also losing veterans at a rate of 22 per day from suicide. That's a fairly significant number.

Nope, but I already fricked your mom.

I'm not here to discuss the politics of pointless wars, and I don't necessarily disagree with you. Just not the point of what I posted and doesn't contribute anything.

If we pulled out of the pointless war today, I'm fairly certain it wouldn't help him or anyone else who died.

My clinical psych professor works part time with the VA, dealing mostly with therapy for PTSD and depression. We've come a long way but still have a long way to go when working with those vets.

There is a serious mental health epidemic in America.

Most politicians only do hollow gestures or lip service for the military and veterans.

Same with gun control. No gun control problem; we have a mental health problem.

You know what would help a lot of people be more mentally healthy? Hard, active, rewarding work. Seriously.

I never feel better than after accomplishing something big at work/home, getting in a good workout, or both.

Oh, and socialization. I'm not saying people don't need "me time", but it's not healthy to sit at home all day and dwell on things.

I believe this. Would also help the drug addicts. Idleness is always a problem.
