Non smoker here, but it's a burning question I've always wanted to ask. I get that you smoke, either you enjoy it or you can't quit. But what I don't get is when I see all these parents lighting up right in front of their young children all the time. I know several smokers who refuse to smoke in front of their kids, and to me this seems logical. Aside from making your kids breathe in all that second hand smoke, this is pretty much setting the worst example possible for young, impressionable children. So if you smoke around your kids, what is your justification? Would it be that much of a burden just to wait until you have some privacy?

You'll soon get a ton of down votes, but I agree - it's nasty, trashy, smelly and basically a parent that smokes is promoting to their child, it's okay to help further your chances of getting heart disease or cancer.

And I'll soon get a ton down votes too ...

I've quit smoking but did smoke a few years with kids. I didn't smoke inside or in vehicle with kids. I never smoked in wife's car that is our "family vehicle" but did in my work truck when kids weren't with me. Didn't smoke in house of course. I guess only time I smoked around them was outside and I'd just kinda walk off a little bit while I smoked.

I really have no idea how it's not child abuse to smoke in the homes or cars where children are present.

People that smoke around young children are the worst.

Engaging in such a highly addictive, unhealthy activity around such young impressionable minds is truly despicable.

Sorry you are a shitty, trashy parent.
Good luck with your lung cancer. Hope you go quick.

You wanna screw up your lungs/heart, do it away from your children who don't have a say in the matter. It's incredibly selfish. Hell my grandparents stopped smoking because of the way it was affecting the grandchildren.

It is in GA. There's an age stipulation of the child/children in the car that I can't remember but it is a crime now.

drinking to a point where you are an alcoholic and pushes addiction? no

eating unhealthy?

same thing...eating unhealthy to a point where you become obese, thus passing down those traits to your children? no

and by "no" I don't mean the children should be taken away (unless extreme circumstances of neglect come into play), but I can still view those people as despicable human beings

Honestly, I know some really good parents that are smokers. In reality, especially among middle and upper class people who smoke, most are pretty good about picking the right times to light up when they have kids. Again, I use to smoke and understand the difficulties. I don't have that hatred and disgust towards smokers many former smokers have. Smoking is extremely tough to quit, as I said in other post, I didn't quit when I had kids myself, I just quit a few years ago. It's scary how difficult it was. And I don't mean the bullshite I smoked half a pack a day for 4 years type that quit. You start doing 2 packs a day for at least 10 years and it's damn near impossible. Many people say they did that and quit first time cold turkey but even some recent studies show that's seldom the case, and more than likely a big lie. Took me about 6-7 attempts.

Serious answer, been trying to quit for awhile and I never smoke in front of or around kids. Also I'll go out of my way to wash hands and get rid of the smell as much as possible (futile I know) before interacting with them and make sure they know it's a bad decision I regret.

Internet answer, mind your fricking business.

They can't help themselves. It's our society today. Everyone has to be all up in your business. Social media only fuels the fire.

BTW.. Don't smoke and don't have kids.

Just don't like busy bodies.

My parents both smoke as well as most of their brothers, sisters, and parents. Grew up around it most of my life, but my parents did always smoke outside of the home.

With that being said my sister and I do not smoke even thou we were raised around it everyday of our lives.
