People Think this is a US vs China thing but really it's a skier wanting to compete that couldn't make the US team.
Huh?

Outside of the China angle, it used to be that most athletes that competed for a different country had stronger ties or didn't make the team in a more competitive country. That has been going on for many decades. We have been seeing a small but growing trend of athletes choosing teams of countries where they had less connection and they were also good enough to make the team of the country most would expect them to compete for. It is usually a result of more opportunities and more money.
This. It's rare for an athlete as good as she is to shun her home country. Particularly the US. I mean, you'll see top tier athletes from other countries compete for the US, but at least they've usually spent years training here.
Other than that, it's usually used so that athletes can compete when they might otherwise not have been able to. Or it helps countries fill out teams that they might not have been able to field.
Remember last year when the Mexican softball team - made up almost entirely of Mexican-Americans - caught some heat for leaving their jerseys in the hotel trash can when they left?

Because she's hot and she has a poonanny.

She's representing a country where actual slavery and genocide is happening TODAY, yet I bet if you asked her she would say that the US is racist and/or oppressive, despite making it possible for her to be where she is now.
Also, I would hope that she will take every opportunity to speak out about the racism and genocide happening in "her country" (China), because I have learned that silence is violence.

Because it is china. If it was Latvia or Belarus or Italy you probably wouldn't hear shite about it.

I wish we could deny her reentry into the US.

It's bidness. Respeck her decision. She will attend Stanford after. It's safe to say she will be a well educated elite communist when it's all said and done.
ETA: It's the equivalent of going to UHigh and committing to Bama.
The Duplantis kid not competing for the US sucked. He had LSU family ties.

I would think most conservatives, especially the "muh GDP" crowd would praise this decision.

To be fair, San Francisco is basically China.

America is notorious for under paying competitors. American athletes rely heavily on endorsement deals. Those that don't get them struggle sometimes.
I read recently a Gold medal can fetch you 6 figure payouts with other countries.

Don't let her back in. Simple. There are a shite ton of Chinese Americans that will side with China when the shite hits the fan. They have infiltrated all institutions and industries to steal intellectual property and sabotage when the time comes.

We better not this year. Post about the Olympics in MSB, but that blasphemy doesn’t deserve its own board.

China "stealing one" for the home team may be an amount of money I don't think anyone here would turn down.
500k? Silly.
But I'd be willing she easily got $10M+ for this, with a carrot included for medaling.
People are gonna beat their red, white and blue chest until their hearts get an arrhythmia on this one, but I think the money was probably too stupid to not at least consider this one for anyone to completely lambast her for this decision.

She is half Chinese, holds Chinese citizenship and has been competing on the Chinese team since 2019.
Sounds like a non-story.

Yep, compromised by the CCP. The major figures over there send all their kids to American and British institutions for higher learning.
