ETA: Had this burglar tried to gain entry into a home, that might have been a different story. That's a threat.

isn't your car an extension of your home, which is why you can carry a gun in it without a CCL?

I'll be honest, I don't know all the technicalities around self-defense laws. To me, someone breaking into your car out on the street is very much different than someone breaking into your home where your family sleeps. To me, a guy breaking into my house is an immediate and urgent threat that is not above being responded to with deadly force. If someone is breaking into my car, he's just a dick, not necessarily a threat to my safety.

ETA: As far as not needing a CCL to have a weapon in your car, I'm not entirely sure. All I know is that if you get pulled over you should tell the cop you have to avoid any misunderstandings.

In certain situations, yes. Some random guy in the car when you aren't? That's in all likeliness not good enough.

He should go to jail for the warrants and the illegal gun but I have no problem with him shooting a thief (if that's what really happened). I wish more thieves would be shot.

ETA - And yes I know it's illegal in most cases. Still wish more of them got shot

Louisiana law only allows the use of deadly force when defending life or grave bodily harm, not the protection of property. It sucks, but that's how it is.

So if a felon isn't allowed to defend themselves if their life is in danger, what are they supposed to do?

That's why dead men tell no tales.

Senor Jordan didn't get the memo

They could defend themselves and have a defense against the actual killing if it was in self defense, but they would still catch the felon in possession of a firearm charge

Which is great, but even if he could own a firearm, you still can't just open fire on people outside of your house not posing a deadly threat.

Which is why I keep a drop gun......
