forgive me but why does "diversity" matter when predicting the success of a single payer HC system?

Things work better when everyone is on the same page. When people, as a whole, say "I'm not paying for that lazy, fat slob" there becomes an incentive not to be a lazy, fat slob.

It matters a lot. Wide ranges in lifestyle choices, wealth, etc. make for huge differences in healthcare costs.

It creates more statistical variance and means that insurance companies have to plan for more risk. This drives up the cost of premiums.
