Honeyfund.com

Crowdfunding for your honeymoon.

The whole site isn't for crowdfunding honeymoons. They also have suggestions for funding downpayments, donations to charity (actually pretty cool), and other stuff. Just saw a young couple getting married that shared this on facebook trying to crowdfund their cruise to the Caribbean

Is this any worse than a gift registry?

I experienced that first hand. I mean, I didn't try to get mine funded but I was invited to a wedding recently that the couple asked that instead of gifts that donations towards a cruise be made. I don't think they got more than about 250.

I've been invited to weddings where they break out pieces of the honeymoon for you to gift (jetskis, hotel room, food, drinks, airfare)

IMHO weird and possible trashy

I don't see anything wrong with that. I would rather a great life experience instead of a new stainless steel 4-slice toaster.

They invited the wrong people.

I just don't see the difference between spending $100 on a China set or putting $100 towards their honeymoon. If it's what the couple wants and costs you nothing extra, who gives a frick? (Rhetorical question, the OT Trashy Patrol does)

How is it any worse? Please use something other than trashy in your answer.

I mean, if it's in lieu of a registry I don't see the issue at all. I had a bunch of people write checks at my wedding instead of give actual gifts, and I spent some of it on my honeymoon.

I'd rather have the shite on the registry than the honeymoon though. And isn't the grooms parents supposed to pony up the bill for the honeymoon since the brides parents pay for the wedding? Pretty trashy if you don't have parents to pay for that.

I wonder if I forward this to my parents if they'll refund me what I'm owed.

Okay, see, now that's just a shitty honeymoon. Those cost like, what, a few hundred bucks?

No, I'm just saying if given the choice between registry or honeymoon, I'm taking the registry and we'll just find our own honeymoon.
