this was just posted to my newsfeed

i figured out Santa wasn't real pretty early in life so this didn't affect me, but i can see how young SFP could have taken things to heart (being from a poorer family) comparing my haul from "Santa" to that of others.

I don't think it's a horrible idea, but then again if a kid still believes in Santa, then he really has no business getting an iPad or Playstation 4 from him.

This is all premised on the ridiculous notion that my kids associate with non-rich kids.

Great point. If you are young enough to truly believe in Santa, you arent old enough to be given expensive things.

But in theory its not a detestable idea. You are, as a parent, essentially instilling in your kids that they are better than other people.

Oic.

I guess its not a terrible idea but I see no reason for this person to be telling others how to give gifts to their kids

Ehh. It's a reality of life that some have more than others. It has to be faced eventually. Around the time that you're old enough to realize this might be around the time that it's time to stop believing in Santa.

I can see how it's pretty sad though.

My parents always split it up. Santa gave me the small things while they gave me some really cool stuff.

Why not have the bigger present cone from the parents to show the parents are ballers and Santa is a low spender?

I clicked and was all ready to blast this to pieces.

But I actually think it makes sense a little bit.

However....not every parent will do this so your efforts won't really matter I don't think.

i get that but i think people are ignoring the "just give the great gifts as a parent" part

it's not saying to not give great gifts...just send those from parents

The kids are happy with their presents. It's the butthurt poor parents whose feelings get hurt.

But this is dealing with the notion of a being who is interdependent from that reality of life and still drawing the short straw.

My kid is still going to get some nice stuff this year.

Mostly a bunch of 30-50 dollar gifts, then his big gift is a trampoline.

But in his mind, a trampoline is something that Santa could build and bring him.

I mean, do it if you want, but society doesn't have a "santa discrimination" problem, so this is just libs libbing it up
