The shine gets added in with my haircut, so I'm not sure what it costs. Maybe $4 for the shine?
I tip $2 for one pair of shoes. If I bring an extra pair, I usually give him a $5. He gets a $20 at Christmas.
Based on watching other customers, I think I'm on the generous side. I see some folks handing over singles or even coins!

I'm not a fan of overtipping like that, a 5 is plenty. If I overtip I feel like I'm telling them I feel like they need the money more than I do, kinda an insult I guess? There's a difference between a great tip and overtipping is what I'm saying.
My barber is a guy I went to HS with, I'll call him my friend now. He only charges $7 for a haircut. Freaking great deal, great barber too. Same price it's been for like 10 years. No idea why he doesn't raise it, but he doesn't. I hand him a $10 every time or if I pay with a $20 ask for a $10 back. I'd pay him $20, but I ain't gonna tip his arse $13 on a $7 cut. Imo that's an insult. It's not my fault he doesn't charge what I'd pay.

$5.
100% tip is good
300% seems excessive.

My guy charges $7. I always tip him ten. However, if he was charging $3, I'd still tip him ten. I'm sure he gets no tip plenty of times and he remembers the guy who tipped him well.

What world do you live in? Of course they need the money. That;s why they do the work.

Guy here charges like $5-6. I can't remember. I use him a few times a year and just hand him a $10. Plus he has a drop-off spot if you want to bring a couple of pairs and pick up at the end of the day.
I found an old Dremel shoeshine machine in my grandfather's shed when we were cleaning out their house after he passed. The old ones with the red buffer and black buffer on them. I cleaned it up, plugged it in, and it works great. So I see the shoeshine guy much less now. I keep it in the basement/garage and will take all the shoes/boots down there and give them a good polish a couple times a year.

$2 bill and 50 cents from the pocket.

Depends on how much time he spent on them. A quality shoe shine is worth $20.
