BATON ROUGE - Sheriff Sid Gautreaux announced Friday morning that he is shortening the curfew for Friday night.

The curfew Friday night begins at midnight and ends at 6 a.m. It previously began at 10 p.m.

"While I feel a curfew is still needed to maintain the safety of residents and first responders and to provide security for devastated homes and businesses, I also want to accommodate the needs of our community by allowing them more time in which to conduct business," Gautreaux said. "The thousands of people that have lost homes and businesses are my number one concern. We will do what needs to be done to secure their property by strictly enforcing those out after midnight without a legitimate reason."

The East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office said that no other adjustments will be made to the curfew until it is lifted. It will be in effect until further notice.

Sid won't be re-elected because of this debacle. Bank on it.

You know, the first night, maybe even the second, I felt this curfew may have been somewhat warranted.

But now, I'm seeing it for what it is: a pissing contest with Kip.

Yep, he had a possible valid argument for a night or two (although still not necessary imo)

This is getting ridiculous.

Still don't give a frick. Drove home from my sisters place at 1am and it looked like I wasn't the only one who didn't care what the sheriff thinks.

I can see how it's absurd to a lot of people for people who were not affected by the flood (such as myself)...but maybe I'm in a small minority that thinks this is actually necessary. Not all of EBR needs it, but there's no way to put a curfew on parts of EBR and not others. Certain parts of EBR definitely need it.

frick Sid Gautreaux. Any good will that sorry piece of shite might have had is as gone as my vote, but that was gone two days ago.

He is out of his mind with this curfew on the entire parish. Curtailing liberties because he can't stop looters is telling.

It's not going to personally affect me, but I think it's stupid that Sid's pissing match with Kip is interfering with the livelihood of people that live in areas unaffected by the flooding, even if it's a small percentage. It's entirely unnecessary to do this parish-wide.

They don't enforce it around school at all. I live off burbank and last night it had normal traffic. It is pointless to have one if you not enforcing it at all. This is plain stupid.
