Was in the neighborhood Walmart in PRAIRIEVILLE/GALVEZ checking out when they told everyone to go to the back of the store. Employees didn't know what was happening either at that point. We were not allowed to leave via the back door or fire exits. 15 I minutes feels like forever when you are trying to call friends to go to your house to be with your kids. I heard a manager saying something to an employee about 'threats being made' by someone out front. After another few minutes the police arrive. 2 officers come into the store and head to the back office (I assume office) while there were more out front. Couldn't see much but frankly didn't want to be in eyeshot of the doors anyway.

Anyone ever been in a Wal-Mart when a missing kid alert happens?

That's pretty fricking scary. It took a while before we were told what was going on.

So you leave your kids at home to go to Walmart... then try to use them for sympathy when they're at home alone BECAUSE YOU LEFT THEM THERE TO GO TO WALMART?

I was at a Wal Mart once when the power went out and they declared that "no one was allowed to leave" because the theft sensor wasn't working. I laughed and headed for the door. An employee got in my way and I said "please touch me" at which point the Manager came running and told the employee to get the frick out of my way.

I am amazed that they think they can tell you anything and more amazed that people listen.

Not saying it's the right thing to do but in today's climate, unless those doors were locked, I don't think the local WalMart employee is going to go out of his way to stop me from leaving, and I wouldn't plan on staying just because they said so.

Unless it was law enforcement, I'm not listening to any manager telling me I can't leave

I assume it's like this everywhere but in Central they lock everyone in until the police show up to investigate. You're not told anything until they arrive except that there is an emergency.

Kid was actually hiding in the store and everything was fine, but this was an hour long process of being unable to leave.

I remember when I was a kid lost in Wal-Mart my mom would go up to customer service and they would call my name on the PA system.

Exactly, especially if they're not giving any info.

There's a ton of scenarios that could play out, but I think the safer play is to get out of there.

Gotcha. Haven't ever been in a store when that was going on.
