We used to run and jump, or even dive head first, off of the top of the seawall when I was in high school. I know... Drunk and stupid. You'll get no argument from me many years after the fact.

Anyway, I went home more than once with worse looking injuries from the barnacles on the submerged steps of the seawall. (I was not only drunk and semi-self destructive, but a slow learner, as well.)

Small bite for a shark big enough to be a likely attacker. I also say gar, same bite radius but a bigger fish.

Why wouldn't you? No one's ever taken you out on a boat in the lake before?

Exercise, fun, leisure, to cool off, etc.

The water quality is checked weekly and the results are kept updated on the basin foundation website.

Outside of a few areas, the lake is perfectly fine to swim in. I've been doing it for years and will continue to do so.

I would not want to swim in Lake Pontchatrain. Nope.

I can understand but I will say this. I am 45 years old and having lived and grown up so close to the lake all of my life I have been swimming in it forever. We have seen sharks and even caught several but this is the first time I have ever heard of anyone being bitten.

I caught a 5-6 ft bull shark in Florida last week and it took about 20 minutes to get it to the boat. No way a 5 ft shark did that little damage as those suckers are strong.

A friend of my got chomped in the surf around Gulf Shores or Orange Beach last summer. Severed her Achilles tendon, but the life guards, EMTs and firemen were handsome and polite. She was a satisfied customer!
