Running the okc marathon this Sunday and will be in town tomorrow. Seeing this with what the forecast is there for tomorrow is making me pucker a bit.

I'd know where the best overpasses are all located just in case.*

This is one of the few pieces of info I’ve retained from my degree…

I always carry a map of tornado approved overpasses

MrLSU

That was actually just northwest of Omaha, near Bennington, NE. Not sure why people on Twitter don’t attempt to put out correct info.

You mean "BeingLibertarian" may not be the best source for breaking weather news?

OK, seek shelter in a sturdy building. Have you ever driven I-80 west? There are damned few buildings along that interstate, much less "sturdy" ones. Some of the cross country roads out there you can drive for miles without seeing a well kept barn. Huge farms, crops are tended as need be. And irrigation towers may be sturdy, but they are far from being buildings. An overpass or a deep ditch ....or stay in your car with the seat belt on and engine running to activate the airbags if you get tossed?

The best approach, no matter where you are, is to be weather aware and make good decisions based on being aware. There are very, very few legitimate reasons that require you to drive during an active tornado outbreak. Either move up your time of travel or delay it to avoid the risk.

If you insist on driving in weather like today it would be wise to take the initiative to learn to effectively read a radar and understand storm motion and habits the best you can. Turn the radio to a channel (an actual radio channel with real meteorologists from your area) that is carrying coverage. Most do simulcasts, know which one carries your preferred local meteorologist. Do not rely on some guy on YouTube five states away with no skin in the game and no accountability to or knowledge of your area.

Your best bet, again, will always be not to drive during a tornado outbreak. If you must, take responsibility and make it as safe as possible for yourself.

Do not stay in your car, no matter what
if you wind up in the direct path of a tornado. They are death traps.

As someone in Oklahoma…my advice is to not stay on the south side of town towards Moore or Norman. That area is a magnet.
