I'm in my 40s and don't really care for massive cities. They make me claustrophobic

Lived in both, Houston felt like home. Dallas is interesting but the long time residents throw off an arrogance that only NYC residents can rival.

frick running into GoldenNugget.
I've spent considerable time there. Good place to be.

Settle an argument: Which is the better place, Dallas or Houston?
If you're a Kennedy, I would say Houston.

Houston has better people. Dallas people have a shitty attitude.
I feel like Houston people are all career focused. No idiots trying to be the cool kid in school. Dallas/Austin/Nola soak up those people.
No city zoning has really put a black eye in Houston for visitors. But it does offer an authenticity to the inner loop area. I have heard countless times that people who move here grow to like it/love it.
It is hot but I used to live in Chicago and I don't miss the snow. Hard pass.

I've lived in both. The DFW area blows Houston out of the water and it's not close. Also, your description of Dallas and the surrounding area is based on descriptions given by others that have never lived here. I'd never live in Houston again.

Is this where you leave your lonely wife for 2-3 weeks at a time?

Except that it has world-class museums, incredible restaurants, world access, etc. GTFO

I live in The Woodlands and work in Houston. Love it. Sorry your experience sucked.
Where did you live/work?

I know plenty in DFW and the stereotypes are not far off.

My Houston experience didn't suck. I lived in Kemah right on the water. The cities are just different. I prefer DFW over the Houston area. The Woodlands area is nice. If I absolutely had to live there again I'd be in the Woodlands or Conroe area.

I'm not sure what to make of statements like this as it pertains to the OP. Houston (as is DFW) is a huge place. To have lived "in Houston" long enough to assess the experience, means you've only experienced a small slice of the total.
Ok, you had bad experiences here. I've had good experiences here (Katy - Energy Corridor). All things considered it is a great place to live. I have friends/family who live from Missouri City to Kingwood - no complaints.
