We used to mess with 2LT's when I was in AIT. We'd be walking in a group of 5-6, see a 2LT coming and spread out just far enough that he would have to drop his salute and re salute every one of us. It got to the point where they'd see us coming and try and walk across the street before we made it to them.
I used to love doing that shite
Officers hate saluting

Almost 100% of the time, one is facing the flag during the anthem. For this reason, I always place my hand over my heart to indicate allegiance to flag and country.
Why the hat has to come off I'm not sure (though I always do it). It's kind of counter-intuitive if you consider the longer history of head-covering related to certain religious traditions where keeping the head covered shows the most respect to higher(est) authority. I think the hat-off-for-anthem thing is more recent, culturally. (perhaps in response to certain military traditions)
Additionally, I thinks it's AOK to sing along with the National Anthem.

Especially on Fridays when they play like 8 fricking songs.
I don't remember that... but submarine bases usually lack a lot of the formalities of other places. We're not big on military bearing. I usually didn't even salute an officer unless it was an O-4 or above.

I remember the first time I went aboard a surface ship... man was the POOD pissed. I just walked across the brow like I owned that bitch and he said "You didn't salute!"
I was like "Oh... y'all do that shite here?"

shite, on Fridays on Marine bases they'd play the usual national anthem while raising the flag, then the Marines Hymn, Anchors away and at least one other song(I forget which one). You could drop your salute after the national anthem but had to stay at attention for the rest of it.

So you think it's OK to draw attention to yourself and away from the flag and what it stands for? You sound like a selfish child. Honestly showing off your tenor while we're supposed to be saluting the flag is akin to pissing on a WWII war widow.

Use context clues. I'm not looking up how to spell that shite.

You're probably too lazy to salute too.

No I do not salute when I am not in uniform. I leave that silly behavior to the non Sea services.
