Messed my back up and been dealing with it for about 2 months. Waiting to see the doctor. Any of you who dealt with this before have any feedback on the treatments you did? TIA

Some of the worst pain of my life, losing weight helps a lot. I also do lots of core training which also helps as well.

6' 1" 170. Messed my back up on deadlifts. Don't think I should get any lighter. Still been working out but have kept it light since.

Ibuprofen, stretch hamstrings, rest. You may have a buldging disc.

Do you have a foam roller? If so roll your back and the length of the nerve. It hurts like hell, you may pee a little at first. It's that bad. But it helps.

I experienced it this time last year. Was miserable. Deadlifts are what caused it for me too.

For me it was heat (patches), NSAIDS, massage, stretching that helped. I only took muscle relaxants a couple of times and only before sleep.

Depends on what is causing it. NSAIDS, muscle relaxants, heat, gentle stretching
Massage may help if it is a muscle spasm

I had this same issue as did a buddy of mine, but our experiences were very different. I think his ended up being a slipped disc and he had to get injections and was on crutches for a while. I was too stubborn and cheap to go to the doc and get an MRI so I just dealt with it. I rested it as much as possible until I felt like I could exercise it, then I just started building up strength in the muscles around it. Since then, the pain has gradually gone away, but I am still really careful with squats and deadlifts...I've tweaked it twice in the last few weeks doing those so I am currently taking it easy to let it heal back up.

Foam roller, heat pads, anti-inflammatories and inversion table were also helpful for me.

I had it for about 8 months. There was no relief whatsoever. Pot would help briefly, but the pain would return within an hour of smoking. Finally got into the doctor and found out I had degenerative disc disease (L5-S1 vertebrea).

They prescribed me Arthrotec which is a NSAID that is buffered with something to help your stomach handle it. It's pretty rough on the stomach still, but the pain was gone within 2 days.

Avoid heating pad and rest it. Ice three times a day for 20-30 mins and aleve for inflamation and it will pass. With that build, work on core and posture.

Get a steroid pack at first. I highly recommend the core strength exercises. Don't go to a PT. They will take their sweet time and work at a snail's pace.

I recommend getting a well referred sports trainer type to help you build your core.

Mine started bothering me after a car accident almost 2 years ago. Still creeps up on me occasionally after too much golf but for the most part keeping your core muscles tuned up has worked best for me. You don't have to be in great shape or super lean, just make sure your interior muscles can support your frame.

Side note: Some folks told me to see a chiropractor. Felt great at first but seemed to cause soreness in other areas after the first few months so I stopped.

Yeah I've been foam rolling and using one of those therapy balls that are like a baseball to hit the nerve. Been taking 6-8 Advil a day, it helps but wears off. Guess I gotta hope it isn't a disc issue.

Really interfered with my sex life--made hand jerking incredibly painful.

Thanks. I guess I'm gonna keep this appointment to see if there's a disc issue and if there isn't I'll go with this route and just stop my squats. Been staying light but will just stop completely.

My mom has it. I don't think she can lose any weight though. She's like 100 pounds, so I don't think weight is the issue.
