Caffeine caused the death of a 16-year-old student, according to Richland County Coroner Gary Watts. Advertisement Watts held a news conference Monday to discuss the results of an investigation into the death of Davis Allen Cripe, who died April 26 at Palmetto Health Parkridge Hospital after collapsing in a classroom.

Watts said Cripe drank a large diet Mountain Dew, a cafe latte from McDonald's and an energy drink in the two-hour period before he collapsed. "We lost Davis from a totally legal substance," Watts said. He said he determined Cripe died from a caffeine-induced cardiac event.

You can overdose on water if you drink enough of it. Of course too much caffeine will kill you.

That doesn't seem like a ton of caffeine to be honest

Ah you think caffeine is your ally? You merely adopted the caffeine. I was born in it, molded by it. I didn't see the light until I was already a man, by then it was nothing to me but blinding!

Wonder if he had a previously undiagnosed heart condition.

Also, she we be more concerned about Coach O's energy drink consumption?

Sounds suspicious to me.

Willing to bet the kid already had an undiagnosed heart condition.

Was thinking the same thing. Are they leaving out four or five bumps from the 'ol chalk line perhaps?

Poor Jesse, I like to show my daughter this clip from saved by the bell, and then show her ShowGirls so she has a full appreciation for what caffeine pills will do to her life.

Energy drink on top of two other caffeine drinks. Stresses the system. You find out whose dna can handle it. Not everyone.

This is not the first young person death i have seen re energy drinks. Some have several uppers in them. Guarana Boom. Ginseng. Boom. Caffeine Boom. It adds up.
The caffeine is more than a cup can deliver.
I cant stand people arguing for natural. So what?

A 12 oz can of Mountain Dew contains 54 mg of caffeine.

142mg Caffeine in a 16 oz cup of cafe latte from McD's

An 8-12 ounce energy drink has 72-150 mg of caffeine

Up to 400 milligrams (mg) of caffeine a day appears to be safe for most healthy adults. That's roughly the amount of caffeine in four cups of brewed coffee, 10 cans of cola or two "energy shot" drinks.
