Saying goodbye to your 4-legged friend

15 1/2 years old. A constant yapper. Can no longer hear. And occasionally leaks. But as loyal as they come.
And feisty. Gives my big dog hell when my big dog presses too much. Never likes for me to be out of her eyesight.
Has had an extremely elevated liver enzymes count for several years. I give her a supplement twice daily to help, although her levels remain off the chart. Yesterday morning, she was fine. Running around, yapping, and just living her daily routine, but did not eat.
Yesterday evening, a completely different story. Won't walk. Can't hardly balance herself. Still won't eat. The only thing she will do is drink water. I've tried chicken broth in her dry kibble, a can of pumpkin and cooked some rice for her. Won't eat.
All of us who are emotionally attached to man's best friend knows that no one gets out alive and this day will inevitably happen, and no matter how much you try to mentally prepare for it, there's no other way to say it except that it sucks.
I'm optimistic that she will turn the corner today. Going to bring her to our veterinarian. But I'm also realistic as this could be her body saying it's time to shut down. Typing that and seeing it in print just gave me a lump in my throat.
And having younger children become upset is difficult as a parent, but I am sure there is a teaching moment in all of this as well.
Happy Tuesday morning to all of you.

We kept a litter of five yorkies mixes from birth. 16 years later no regrets but only one alive today. This last year has been ruff going to the vets is not fun. I only wish I was half the person my Dogs think I am.

If it’s time, maybe see if the vet will come to your house to put her down. Comfortable, recognizable surroundings for her might be less stressful

Very sorry- I know exactly how you feel. We just lost our yorkie os 14 years 5 days ago. You will be depressed for a long time- very sorry

She’ll go to Rainbow Bridge knowing her family loved her and took care of her throughout her life. You’ll also be at peace knowing you took care of her and loved her the best you could. I’ve had two male chocolate labs I’ve had to put down over the years when both of them had cancer and became very sick. Very hard thing to do but you’ll get through it.
Praying for you, baw.

I've had a few of those days in my life, and more ahead. Dogs are awesome. It's sad when we lose them.

Man. I hope she does turn the corner. I sincerely do. Had a similar experience months back, my old boxer Roscoe couldn't pull thru. frick! Still hurts. Personally, I've always thought more of my dogs(dogs in general) than most people. Prayers are with you bud.

The worst part about having a pup. Prayers for you and her both. Should she go she'll have a great time with the other pups up there until you join her.

We had to have our female Giant Schnauzer put down on Saturday night. She had many health issues and she was suffering. It's so hard to do even when you know it's the right thing to do.
We miss her badly. She was as good of a companion as anyone could want in a dog.
RIP Lola. We love and miss you.

Sorry about your little furry friend.

Brings it all back for me. We lost our 14 year old Boston Terrier two years ago this September, and it still stings every time I think about him.

That dog has had a great life and has given you all of its live and trust. With that trust, comes the obligation by you to make sure it doesnt suffer when the time comes. It's a 16 yr old dog and will never be "back" to it's old self. They just dont live longer than that 90+% of the time.
I've been where you are a few times. Sorry for your dogs poor health and wish you the best.

Went through it in May of this year, the best medicine for the loss of a dog is a new puppy
We used Dr Carly with lap of love for in home euthanasia, highly recommend her

My first and only dog's day is coming soon. She's 14+ yrs old and has a cancerous tumor growing in her bladder that will soon close off her urethra. The advised against removing it since the operation would almost certainly spread the cancer.
After talking to several friends, I think I'm going to go with an in-home service, so that she's in her bed in a comfortable place. I'm also going to make a badarse last meal for her and I to share and let her eat her own plate as she pleases. Probably do steak, shrimp, and veggies of some variety on the grill.
I just can't decide which day of the week I will want to have it done, when the time finally comes. Monday, so that I have a busy work week ahead to keep me as preoccupied as possible and time to mourn as much as possible before the weekend ahead. Or a Friday to have the weekend to mourn and decrease the chance of it affecting my work.
Any suggestions, or experiences with both for those that have had to put down more than one dog before?
Not looking forward to that day at all
